Acoustic B200H cutting out

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, folks. I have an Acoustic B200H head running into an Acoustic B115 cab. Had them for about a year.

Recently, I started getting crackles when playing, and eventually the sound cuts out (not completely, though--if I listen closely, I can hear some representation of what I'm playing).

I replaced the cable I was using, but that didn't help, and I have tried three different basses to make sure it's not an instrument problem.

Could this be a pot issue?

Thanks, everyone.

I had a similar case with a Hartke once.... it was a weak solder joint that became weaker as time went by, resulting in the sound cutting out. If you take it to a repair person, they may figure out where it's at...but it could be a nightmare finding the bad solder joint.

Yeah, but thank God for heat guns and cold spray and chopsticks, which can make the job a bit easier.

Shoot. Recommend a place to look for a repairman? Will general electronics repair do?

And what does this kind of service usually cost in your experience?

try a different amp head and find out if its in your cab or in the head... if its in the cab do it your self if its in the head i would pay someone to do it. arent both still under warranty so maybe guitar center will fix them for you.

If the amp has an effects loop try jumpering the send and return with a short signal cable. If this cures the problem you can either have the jacks cleaned or just leave the cable in place.

Under a year old? Try taking it back to GC or MF. Did you buy Pro-Coverage? Check it out.

Other than that I had a little trouble with the spade connections in my B-450 combo on the speaker lugs from Acoustic using a general hardware part and I would intermittently loose the upper 10-inch driver and it sounded pretty bad!.

I just soldered pigtails on it and the problem never came back.

That was pretty radical and I didn't care if I voided the warranty or not.

Don't bother e-mails to the 'factory'. It's just a warehouse and they wouldn't stop to urinate on you if you were on fire.

You can get great warranty satisfaction with GC though as it's their house brand.

Other than the minor trouble I originally had - I have not had another problem in the year I've been using my Acoustic gear.

Tried jumpering the send and receive to no avail. I don't have a second head to try it out.

SurferJoe: Will they even talk to me if I didn't pay for the extra warranty?

I have a 1-year automatically on my Acoustic gear PLUS the Pro-Coverage takes over after that as I understand it.

If you've lost the receipt- you can either get a reprint on the GC website or the store will gladly print up a duplicate for you.

They seem to pivot for ID purposes on your phone number.

I'd certainly try it even if there's a screw up somewhere. GC likes to go the extra mile for me and I bet without an attitude, they'll do it for you too.

I've never been treated badly by anyone at the GC I go to.
