Acoustic B600H, no speakers, just direct?

Sign in to disble this ad
Or will powering it up and running it without speakers plugged in kill the thing?

I'd like to use this head for worship, but without killing the front pews. If I can skip the speakers, and plug into the system, then just get some monitor going...the tone will be much improved over the Ampeg B115 combo we've got to work with!

Any advice?

Thanks

Should be fine, check the manual to be sure. It's tube amps you need to have attached to some load although some of those have protection built in.

If all you want is a DI send and have the house system supply monitor.......why use an amp head at all? Like this Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Active Direct Box at AmericanMusical.com

I like, but am not in love with the sansamp bassdriver. Plus, the head is already paid for, and has the tone!

I've got a note in to the company, as there is nothing in their manual about it. I'd love to get a consensus on this before I test out the 3 year warranty lol.

SS amps can be run without a load, they have no output transformer so current flow in the output without a load attached. It would be a very poor design (SS) if it couldn't.

If you want some personal/band monitoring, just run the amp to a single small cab facing you and the band, away from the congregation, like facing backwards in front of you like a monitor and keep the levels low, use the di send to the foh system. If you don't run a wild eq you could use a post eq send and get some of the amp flavor out there. Could be a little 110 or 112 cab tilted back slightly, doesn't have to be big or expensive. I find bass to sound pretty lame through most wedge type monitors.

well, our monitors are EAW's, and while small, they can handle some bass. Enough to make the acoustic guitars go crazy

I think I'll give it a test run, and see if anyone notices the difference in tone over the ampeg combo.

Thanks!
