Acoustic Image Clarus Series 4

I guess these are pretty new, don't know how long they have been available. Anyone out there using the series 4. Is this any different than the series 3 other than the power. I have been playing a Kala Ubass lately as well as my Landing J style bass and having two channels would really be nice. Would love to hear thoughts of any series 4 electric bass users. Thanks.

Take a look at the Amps Forum on the DB side, there's some discussion there. JxBass plays mainly BG, IIRC.

I have a Clarus 1 Series 2 and use the effects loop as a 'second' channel... My Kala LOVES the High Z input (as does my Realist equipped Shen)... I roll up the bass and roll down the mid, treble, and brite controls to get a warm, smooth, mellow attack and full tone. When I'm doubling with electric, (typically a P), I run it into my Fishman Pro-EQ Platinum and run this through the effects loop, using the individual level controls for each 'channel'... This works great and allows me to have both basses plugged in and quickly switch with a twist of the knob...

Here's the link to the thread Charlie mentioned. I did a brief comparison last night between my Clarus+ Series III and "just received" Clarus Series 4.

Thanks, I'm on my way to DB forum right now. Also very interesting way to use a single channel Clarus with two basses, and good to hear the Ubass sounds good through the Clarus, I was hoping it would.

Strange that they include effects on the heads as the default. I guess that is due to the fact that quite a few jazz guitarists use these heads. Seems to make little sense for bass to me.

Nice heads though, especially for instruments like the Rob Allen. The warm mid voicing of these heads and polite top end with a bit of attenuation down low works great to tame the extreme range of piezo pickups.

I always found their power ratings very 'honest'. However, always thought their speakers sounded like dog (haven't heard the new models though).

I like it, personally. I'm not one for pedals and effects in general and adhere to the keep-it-simple principle as much as possible ... the straightforward three band EQ is another thing I really like on the AI gear. Having the option of adding just a touch of reverb or chorus on rare occasions without having to schlep and hook up extra stuff is kinda neat.

With my Clarus+ I've experimented with running the RA through both channels, with one having just a slight touch of effect while the other remains clean. I'm sure it's no big whup to the listener but fun for me
