Active amp, passive bass question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, i have a question...i have a GK 700RB amp and passive bass... the amp has -10dB pad for active basses, so if i press it i can still hear sound of my passive bass and i could play.

I just want to know if i can play in -10dB with passive bass without breaking the amp or something? (i really love the sound)

Thanks, greetings

Basically all the db pad does is reduce the signal from your bass. Many basses with active pickups and pre-amps can cause clipping. The purpose of the db pad is to prevent this from happening. You could run you passive bass with the pad button engaged but why would you want to? There isn't any reason to do so.

That will essentially send a not-as-strong signal into the preamp section of your head, so you might end up using more gain or more master volume to compensate. It might affect your headroom a bit when it's time to turn up, but otherwise it's probably no biggie if you like the sound.

@Rockmusician...i just like the sound because it's much more smooth and there is not a lot of treble sound. Yes the signal isn't so strong and i need to get more volume then but it's ok. I was just wondering if could be anything wrong, but thanks to you i know it won't be. Thanks again boys have a nice day

It's not a problem, but the same thing can be achieved by just lowering the input gain.

Set the gain as the manual says and roll back the Treble and Hi-Mid knobs a little bit. Your idea is fine though - I think rolling the tone knobs back is easier though.
