Active bass with tube head ??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I play a Fender jazz bass American deluxe, with an old yamaha B100 solid state head. I like the sound I have now, but I always wanted to check the sound of an active bass with a tube head. i can't do the test myself , because I can't get a good tube head, like orange or Ampeg SVT in my hands.

So, I would like to know your opinion about this subject, how is the difference in sound between a passive bass with a tube head and an active bass with a tube head?

any thoughts?

thanks.

I have a tubed head and an active bass. Sounds fine. Granted, my tubed head isn't a classic and is more modern (2000ish), but it's still tubed if that helps. I played an SVT once in a studio, but I can't remember what bass I used..... so I can't help much there.

Modulus M92/5 through a VB-2for me. Good stuff. Plenty of pros use active basses and tube heads. I don't see any inherent problems with this setup.

Control the amount of gain you send to the pre-amp. If you don't want any pre-amp distortion, it might be best to get an amp with independent volume and gain controls.
