Active basses pad feature and old tube amps?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking about getting a vintage all-tube amp. I'm currently using a Hartke Model 3500 and a Yorkville XS-400 Bass Head (which both have tube preamps).
My question is modern amps have separate inputs for active basses to lower the input.
Older amps don't have this pad feature for active basses. Is it a problem using active basses on old amps or can I compensate by just lowering the volume?

Many thanks

It's not a problem at all. Most don't even use the pad on their modern amps with an active bass. Only if the bass is super hot, which most aren't. And, you'd use the amp's gain control to get it all right anyway.

Nope.

Not a problem.

People didn't have a problem running their Stingrays and RD basses into Tube amps "back in the day".

My old Boogie D180 works fine with my active basses.
