actual wattage

I was literally just about to buy this 200w amp or the 300w version, i browse around and GC tells me the amp is 35 watts.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Peavey-M...42-i2469458.gc

Would 200w be the maximum wattage the speaker can handle but the amp itself only puts out 35...? Kinda confused...and feel like Peavey is trying to screw people over because i would not pay 250 dollars for 35 watts, not even on a guitar amp.

People buy these all the time http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Hot-R...item19d6ab72a5

Here is Peavey's page, not G.C.'s version http://www.peavey.com/products/index...B%26nbsp%3B112

Looks like a 35 watt combo amp.
I have paid a LOT more for 30 watt tube guitar amps...

There are two different Peavey MAX 112 bass combo amplifiers, confusingly enough.

Peavey MAX 112 (200W)

Peavey MAX 112 (35W)

That's probably the source of your confusion.

Peavey named two amps the Max 112. A 35W combo and a 200W combo. Stupid.

What gave you the idea that these are 200W and 300W amps? If it was on the back, that's power consumption, not output. Sorry if you already knew this.

the 112 is 200w and the 115 says 300w but i have a feeling that is peak power not RMS, so i might just stay away from it.

I believe you're right. The specs and manual just say "200 watts" rather than "200 watts RMS" so it's likely those are peak wattage figures, and RMS would be roughly half that. Peavey used to be very conservative with wattage ratings and were known for producing "loud" watts for their ratings, but I guess those days are gone.

There's two versions of this amp:
Old one:
Max 112 35w
http://www.peavey.com/products/index...B%26nbsp%3B112

New one:
Max 112 200w
http://www.peavey.com/products/index...B%26nbsp%3B112

New one is 200w, and about the same price as the old one.

Peavey was not too smart to call them by essentially the same name.
This is going to be a frequent point of confusion.
Stores will never get it right if they still have old stock.

No, I was asking where you saw the power rating. If, as I posted, it was on the back of the amp, that's not the amp's output.

New Peavey 112 bass combo amp.200 watt

I just purchased this amp from M.F. haven't heard it. It is 200 watts according to the sales rep from M.F. I was confused as well. Peavey should have named it differently. I should have it tomorrow. Has any one heard this amp?

They updated the amp and increased the power section. It was 35W, now 200W. Pretty decent sounding amp for what it is.

From what I read about it sounds like a lot of bang for buck. My first bass amp was a Peavey TNT 130, that was back in 1988, great amp. I needed something with more power, easy to carry and something that I wouldn't have to worry about on the bar circuit.

You think they might rename the new model.

You'd think!

I wonder how many people think they're buying the new amp but getting left over stock of the old amp. This is so stupid.

The 35 watt 112 sells for $199. The 200 watt sells for $249.

Well, the Max 112 200 watt arrived yesterday afternoon and I found that I liked the tone and it seems to have versatility to its tone. Sunday will be the trial run with Glory Bound, we'll see how the built in DI works and Friday I'll test it for volume with the Distoniks. Keep you posted.

Exclamation Max 112 I 35W RMS; Max 112 II 200W (peak?)

Peavey's web site shows both amps - WITH IDENTICAL NAMES The specs on the first Max 112 are 35 W RMS while the spec for the new Max 112-II just says "200W" so it's almost certainly a peak rating i.e the RMS rating would be half, or even less.
