Adding an Avatar cab(s) to my rig.

Sign in to disble this ad
Im thinking about purchasing an Avatar bass cab(s) and I am torn between the Avtar B410 and B212, I keep going back and forth between the two. I had my heart set on the 410 and then I was going to add another 410 later when I have the money, but then I saw the reviews for the 212 and they were mixed but general consensus was that it would be a better buy than the 410 and it had elements of punchy tone that I want but still holds down the low end well. I also have problems hearing myself on stage and apparently the 212 cuts through loud guitars and drummers. So I guess the question is, what is better 2 Avatar 410's or an avatar 410 and 412 and which should I get first the 410 or 412. BTW I would be getting both cabs at 8 ohms, with an Ampeg SVT 3 pro driving them both.

I have limited experience with the 4x10 Avatar, but I think the 2x12 responds really well to 250-800 hz mid boosted adjustments to compensate for differences between bright, gymnasium acoustics and carpeted/ low ceiling dive bar acoustics.

Get a pair of 2x12s.

Get the neos. Don't fall for the "1000 watt" ceramic DeltaLF hype, they'll both fart out with around 300 real watts in each cab anyway.

personally i would go for the 4x10 and the 2x12...gives a good mix for all frequencies....dont limit yourself to one cab......if you have both then u have flexiblity

I have both. I use the 212 for rehearsals and the 410 for gigging. I know it is very subjective, but I prefer the sound of the 212 to the 410. If you had to go with one, depending upon the size of the venue, I would probably go with the 212. Plenty of bassy bottom end. However, the 410 is an excellent speaker cabinet, as well. Either cab is an excellent choice, in my opinion.

I feel like this is what I'm looking for but I'm not too sure because i hear having two of the same cabs makes it louder but I'm really not too sure about that. It stinks I cant really test either of them out before a purchace, its sort of a leap of faith but like Stevens1212 said, there both excellent choices and regardless which cab, as long as it has the Avatar name on it, it will be a decent enough cab...Am I right to say that?

If you are in the CA area, I will be playing the "taste of Marina Del Ray festival" on August 9th. I own both the B410 NEO, and the B212, but the 212 has ceramic drivers. Both cabs are 4ohm, and both are rated at 1000 watts, and I would be happy to let you check them out

i have a 4x10, 8ohm, loaded with the neodymium deltalites and i love it. i'm using a GK rb1001 mkII. I removed the internal crossover on the cabinet and use a cobbled together 4 conductor speakon to connect to my head. that way i use crossover on my amp instead of the crossover on the cabinet and i can control my tweeter and woofers from the front of my amp. i've never had any problems with the cab, plenty of bass, and fairly light (65lbs) for its size. my only complaint would be the way the speakers are mounted to the cabinet. i would have preferred to have them t-bolted to the baffle from the rear rather than just screwed into the front.

I'm currently using a Carvin B1500, but I might switch to a GK 2001

I too have been looking into getting an Avatar 2x12 to pair with my Ampeg 500W head.

Does anybody know if Avatar will use the Eminence Kappalite 3012LF drivers upon request?

I highly suggest buying two of the same cab. Don't start mixing the cabs and expect great tone to appear. Two of the same cab will always sound louder and better than mismatched cabs. When two cabs put out the same tone differently, the resulting tone is good in some frequencies and terrible in others. I used to do an Eden 410xlt and 212xlt and the resulting tone was good low end, but a lot of mud without much articulation. I sold the 212 and got another 410xlt. Boom! Got everything one 410xlt had plus more! Clear and punchy sounding all the way through with plenty of low end.

I have both the B212 and B410, and I have not experienced any problem with definition or low end, but I'm not saying your wrong. I read the Bass Player review of Avatar bass cabs, and they recommended this combination which seems to work for me.

To some degree, some brands of cabs are actually designed to be mismatched and still sound good. If it works for you, then keep on thumpin away! Don't let me stop you!

I have owned and used the B212 cabs (8ohm and 4 ohm models) and even ran 2-b212's stacked with a Gk700RBII at an outdoor gig and it was killer loud. Right now I use 2 Sb112 Av's with a Gk Mb500 . I am in no way an expert like Bill F. ( he could explain this I am sure), but 2 -8ohm-112's are louder and deeper and a single 4 ohm B212. I like the versatility of being able to run one cab or two depending on the venue. Also , nothing I own weighs over 39lbs.
