Adding Connector to a Combo Amp

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Gallien-Krueger MB115 which is a combo amp. (Power Amp with 15 inch speaker cabinet connected internally.) I was wondering if it is possible (and reasonable) to have an external speakon or 1/4 input installed on the cab so that I can unplug the power cord for the amp portion and pair it with a separate head and 2X10? How much might something like this cost?

Hi.

With 1/4" it's possible, with a Speakon, not so much.

The reason is that You want to cut the speaker from the amp circuit and AFAIK, that's impossible with current Speakon jacks.

Shouldn't cost too much, a jack plate of some sort, the jack, and some wire, possibly a bit of routing for the jack plate.

Feasible/reasonable, You'll be the judge.

I'd personally run the two rigs parallell if I was sure that the outputs are in phase.

Regards
Sam
