Additional cab or another combo?

Sign in to disble this ad
So, my first "real" practice today in a small office against a 30w guitar amp, and a rather relaxed drummer. This is very small, i know. I had to turn my 180w 115 Ashdown combo to pretty much flat out to even be heard.

The amp is 4 ohm, the internal speaker is 8 ohm, ready for another 8 ohm cab. Should I get another matching 115 like my original plan, or get another matching combo to run with it? I dont want to lose my money by selling my amp, its only a few months old.

I know with only the 8 ohm internal speaker, i only get a quarter of the power (not volume) of a couple of 8 ohm 115's.

Suggestions?

The cab in question is Ashdown MAG115 £180

The combo is Ashdown EB15-180 £260

Thanks a bunch

Yes, add another 115 and see what that amp is really capable of. Forget wattage, with 2 15's you'll be in the mix without straining the amp.

I feel the same as Boogie, Bozo, an Scary James Brown...the extra 15 will double your cone surface are, and more than that make your tone much better. JMHO

Agreed. If you're happy with your combo, the extension cab (at 8ohms) give you max flexibility.

but it sounds like you don't even need it yet...
