Adjustable Input Sensitivity....Why?

Sign in to disble this ad
My Crest CA-6 is pretty much hotter-than-hades with what I consider to be pronounced "floor" noise. I can generally get a handle on things by rolling off the attenuators to -15 or so and doing the same with the enclosure's HF driver. The manual states the preset input sensitivity is .775 V but offers an internal configurable jumper which can be reset at ~1.3 V if desired. This value is more in line with comparable components (QSC RMX, DriveCore) which, per specs, are set at 1.2 and 1.4, respectively.

Would there be any advantage to resetting the input sensitivity given the stated situation? What is the purpose of the option in the first place?

Riis

Only if your pre-amp output is too hot for the amp.

Hi.

It's always a good practise to match the sensitivities as closely as possible, so every component operates in it's optimum range.

The reason for the options in the first place is to ensure the amps optimum operation with various sources. Unfortunately there's several "standards", so if the option is something other than just a simple pad, I consider them to be an exellent feature.

Regards
Sam
