Hello, new to the forum, ive been reading it for a while not, just registered tho. Im pretty sure ive searched through the site pretty good for my answer, but haven't found it, so if i missed it i apologize in advance.
Im scouting for a new amp, i currently have a 100w ibanez combo. My guitarist bought a 100w marshall, and ive wanted to upgrade for a while myself. Ive been looking at genz benz ( overseas at the moment so i havent touched one in a while ;p ). I was planning on going with a GBE 750 with a 8ohm 4x10, should put me good for along time. upgrading is a important feature for me, but still reasonable not to overpower my band. But i found a offer for a Gbe 1200 for cheaper 899, and thats hard to pass up, id save money for a more powerful unit. maybe to powerful.
So my question is. The user manual states, that running 2 ohms with the 4/8 selected is a nono ( i understand why ), and that running 4/8 ohms with 2 ohms selected is fine, and can be used to lower the output for smaller bars.
Am i right in my thinking that the 1200 will produce...
With the 2ohm selected
1200 @ 2ohm, 600 @ 4ohm 300 @ 8 ohm
If thats accurate, what would the recommended 8 ohm cab power rating be for either the 550w ( 4/8 selected ) or the 300w ( 2 ohm selected ) I was thinking a 4x10 uber, or of that nature.
Am i biting off more then i can chew with power?
