Advice building cabinet to match head-

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys-

I have had a Music Man 75 bass/guitar head for a long time but have never had a cabinet really suited for it. I am interested in building a cabinet, largely for the fun of it.

I'm no expert on this stuff, and am wondering what speaker I should get to match the head (which is 4 or 8 ohm, 75watt).

I'm interested in a classic rock 60s kind of sound, and am thinking of using just one speaker, maybe a 12".

This rig would be used for recording, having around. Not anything too taxing.

Sorry for the neediness of the post. I'm really looking for the right speaker, then I'll figure out the dimensions for the cab.

Thanks-

PC

You should get quite a few suggestions/ideas here.

Here's a couple off the top of my head.

1. EV TL-606, plans available everywhere, just search. You can use the 15L speaker or eminence has a couple replacements that are good fits.

2. The emi. delta 15 (nonLF) is said to be a good replacement in the ampeg B15 cabs.

3. Find a pair of 10" with a tone profile similair to the ampeg 810 and build a 1/4 size sealed 210. Problem there is you can't use the 32ohm direct replacements unless you end up with at least a 410.

4. Find an old JBL and build a box around it.

OK, that's more than a couple. Build dimensions on any of these can be adjusted so it looks nice sitting under the head, just make it up in depth or height to keep the correct internal volume for the speaker you're using. This will likely involve a lot of research, questions, etc. before you cut any wood.

OK, that's more than a couple. Build dimensions can all be adjusted
