Advice needed on loading a 410 Cab

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Basson B410 cab and the Cab itself is damaged on the bottom as in a crack diagonal across one side.Speakers are all fine in this cab and I have an Ampeg HLF410 with blown speakers and wheels have been turning about loading the Basson speakers in it also maybe buying an empty aftermarket cab..I know the Basson speaker mags are like 200 oz a piece and the whole cab weighs like 140 lbs..I have also tossed the idea around about a live in roadcase... I am wanting some advice on if I should attempt this or what my options should be here..I know there are alot of guys here alot smarter than me and can give me their opinions on this matter I just hate to scrap the Basson!!

Since the Basson drivers are designed for that specific cab, the time spent loading then into the Ampeg will not yield the the results you're looking for.
The empty aftermarket cab is a crapshoot unless you're willing to put the time into plugging the parameters of new drivers into WinISD and finding an optimum enclosure pairing.
Even then you're putting the carriage before the horse in terms of finding drivers to work in a box.
If you must have a 4x10, a functional used one can be had for a few hundred dollars.

One of the reasons Basson went out of business is that those drivers are supremely unsuited to electric bass use. Sell them to Basson owners who need replacements.

I believe hes trying to say that the speakers in Bassons were not best for bass guitar. Thus blowing speakers very easily.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Bill.

There are two circumstances where you find magnets that large. One is with hi-fi subwoofer drivers that go very low but do so with some 10dB less sensitivity than required for electric bass usage. The other is with pro-sound drivers with very low Qes/Qts, which makes them very good in the mids but chokes off bass response, not something that you want with electric bass. Basson made a big deal about using drivers with very large magnets, when the truth of the matter is that's a bad feature, not a good one. They also made a big deal about their cabs being able to handle huge amounts of power. That was another minus, not a plus, as they needed a huge amount of power to work.

Ya, they have some crazy minimum requirements for power.

Is the Besson cab sealed? That would explain how it isn't blown too. I'm adding up 5 string and blown HLF and coming up with "doesn't know how to EQ the sub bass out of his cab", or carrots.

Build two half Bessons with 1/2 inch ply and bracing. Stack them vertically.
