Advice on purchasing new bass rig

Sign in to disble this ad
I play in a metal band and am currently using a Peavey TNT 115 200w bass amp. It is a damn good amp and has served me well, but I need to upgrade to something with a heavier sound presence.

Anyone got suggestions and advice for a head and cab (both 410 and 115)? Brand, wattage, any insight would be helpful.

Thanks

What do you mean by "heavier sound presence?" Volume? Or low end?

I'd ask others if they can hear you. You might be going deaf considering the type of music you're playing.

But I'm an old f@rt, so you can iggy my answer if you like.

NEO rocks for portablility.
Avoid MDF cabs.
8x10 rules, unless you need to move it.

Ampeg svt450 + svt410hlf does it for me. Massive low end!
I'm in a metal band, but my 'sound' isn't typical metal.
What kind of sound are you looking for?

I'd go with two 410s rather than one and a 115. Fifteens don't add much to your tone except maybe a little muff. Depending on budgetary constraints, I'd suggest an amp with at least 750 watts. I have Eden, Glockenklang, Aguilar and Walter Woods heads, and usually play through a single 410. That's plenty loud for me. Having two 410s will give you some versatility with repsect to venue size.

Anyway, Mesa, Genz Benz, Gallien Kruger, and MarkBass get lots of love around here. I'm sure you'll here from plenty of folks in those camps.
