Why do you specify those two? What are you hoping to achieve with one? |
Yeah and you're kinda comparing Amples and Oranges there bub! |

Tone doesn't come from name badges on amps. One of those things that a lot of people believe, but doesn't really bear out when you think about it. |
But again the quality of tone, the tone of tube amps help standout being easily audible and smooth |

Seriously we are not trying to be obtuse here. You are just asking the wrong question for the answer you want. As far as which of those amps do people prefer? Carrots. I wouldnt waste money on either. |

What do you plan on using the amp for? Practice, full band or both? |
Okay John....people aren't able to give you good answers becuase your question isn't very good. If you want advise choosing between two rigs, first tell us what you're looking for in an amp. Tell us what kind of music you play and what kind of sound you're looking for. Give examples of other musicians who have a sound similar to what you're looking for. Do all of that and then we can help you decide between two amps or give you some meaningful advice about a third or fourth option you may not have considered. Seriously brotha, we are here to help but you've got to give us something to work with.... |
Both combos The orange I dont see for anything more than practice or very soft coffee house jams. never heard one but im sure the 12" speaker and 50watts is limiting The Ampeg has a little more juice and a larger 15" speaker not only will it handle more power, but the 15 should have a little more sensitivity and be able to keep up with a light drummer/band So if your looking for a practice amp, I would just buy something small and used instead of going full price for new. Then if your looking to later on start jamming with buddies and a drummer the Ampeg is probably the better choice. for practice and jams In the end if it is a single 15" combo and the volume it can achieve is limited by the speaker not the watts. If you need loud and portable I would go for a fair priced head unit and then buy a single 8ohm 15" cab. If for any reason you need more volume you can expand the system very easy and add another matching single 15" cabinet. combos are limiting since most dont offer any way of expanding unless they offer a plug to add a extension cabinet. But many do not so you spend all the money for what it is, and then get stuck spending more again when you need to expand. |
The Orange is a small practice amp not suitable for playing with a drummer unless you are in a very quiet group doing coffee house volume gigs. If you intend to play with a drummer the Ampeg is the easy choice if it's got to be one or the other. |
OF THOSE TWO CHOICES, I'd most def. go with the Ampeg. I've heard ZERO good things about the crush series. Not a one. HOWEVER.....a combo is not really the best way to go for most bassists. I'd recommended a used head in the ~200watt range. Put that atop the nicest speaker cabinet you can afford. |
