AE212 with D-210XST - WOW.

I've been playing a lot (in my practice room) with my Eden WTX-500 through my new Bergantino AE212, and it's sounding great. I'm using my D-210XST as a speaker stand for the AE212. I couldn't use both speakers because they're both 4-ohm, and the WTX-500 goes down to only 4 ohms.

That's when I got this wild hair (or is it hare) about building a cable to put two cabs in series. So I did this, as reported in my thread in Miscellaneous. I made the cable yesterday, and now I've got both cabs plugged into the WTX-500.

All's I can say is I wish I had enough room in my car to put both the PA and this rig. The sound is just incredible. The strengths of each cab complement each other, making the whole greater than the sum of its parts. The D-210XST is sitting on the floor, so its customarily strong bass output is coupled and enhanced. Then its crisp highs add sparkle to the full-range consistency of the AE212, which brings a creaminess to the mids.

I've tried it with several Fenders and a Fodera, and they all sound great. I'm going to run an F Bass through it next.

That is all.

so then you're running the head at 8 ohms and only sending about 150 watts max to each speaker? i'll bet it sounds great! but you might not get the volume you need when push comes to shove.

The combination fails because the cabs don't match, sorry .

Question for you though, do you have or have you thought about getting an AE410? You seem to like your 410s so I thought you'd go for that before the AE212.

I'm still trying to find out what the WTX-500 is rated at 8 ohms, but I'll bet 300 watts is close. I've got it set with the gain at about 11 o'clock and the volume at 11 or 12, and it's LOUD.

Yeah, I tried an AE410 a while back and it was OK, but I'm trying to downsize while opening my mind to other possibilities. Twelves have come a long way in the last ten years. Ken Jung's comparison, the AE212 sounded better than the A410 to me, and I'm not a slapper, so the AE212 is fine for me. That, and the AE212 is seven pounds lighter. I just sold my D-210XLT, which is 13 pounds heavier than the AE212. And the D-410XLT I just sold is 43 pounds heavier than the AE212.

I loved the 210XST under my 210XLT but sold both cabs this year in the name of never ending GAS. I replaced them with an Epifani UL-2 410 and while the difference in weight was huge, the Eden stack has so much more personality in m opinion.

Having said that, I was never happy with the tone of the 210XST cab by itself.

Funny ... I had the same setup in my practice room .. a 210XST on a 210XLT driven by a WT-800B. I never loved the tone 100 percent, and I blamed the XLT. I like the XST by itself ... I'm into the modern tone thing.

But then the other day, as I was saying my farewells to the XLT because I sold it, I plugged my WTX-500 into it and, lo and behold, I liked the tone. It had a lot of punch and was nice and clean on top, but still had the mid bump. A bit of seller's remorse set in, but I ended up selling it to a TBer.

Maybe the marriage of the XST and XLT was not made in heaven, because both are excellent cabs. It just turns out that the 210XST seems to work better with the AE212 for me. Seriously, I can get "my tone" with this setup.

I wonder how it all would sound with a Tecamp Puma 1000.

the extra speakers cover the difference, I suspect it may even be louder running it this way
