My guitarist's Bugera 333 which is Behringer blew up the very night that I strongly defended their products on here! They're the low end amps that most of us wouldn't be caught dead with. However, they work great for some people because it's in their budget and still effective. Basically, they cut corners to make cheap products and turn quick profits. Cheaper components and lesser quality control.
My vote is for Hartke amps. They're inexpensive, have a good rep, and Larry Hartke himself will take care of you if you so wish! He posts on here from time to time and even leaves his cell phone number online for people like us to chat with him!

But whatever your choice - welcome back!!

I have a crappy little B200 (20watt) amp and its still kicking ass. Hartke doesn't play around when it comes to quality.

Bugera's slightly better now. Well, you might've been able to do better for the dough, but it's the enjoyment of playing that counts! Welcome back! |

All I could afford when I decided to start playing again after a 30 year hiatus. Gave me great reliability and sound for the price. Still one of the best sounding rigs I have owned for outdoor use. And boys,I blew up more Ampegs,Fenders, and Acoustic amps in my prime gigging years than I can remember! |

| | | | Hartke good. Me use mine 18 years so far. Much road gig. Play many weeks in row before come home again.

| | | | I took a few years off myself, (4, but I still practiced nearly every day at home) but found that it was something my life was really missing. I HAVE TO PLAY. That's all there is to it. You'll be glad to be back, too.

| | | | My main rig is a Reeves Custom 225 with Mesa cab, but I have a Behringer head as backup. It has been reliable over the years, and was very cheap. Sound quality is so-so, but with a little work it is OK. I got a great compliment a couple of years ago, when a well known guitarist in these parts said "When I first heard you, I couldn't believe you were playing a Warwick through a Behringer - very good sound". Felt pretty good. Guess I am saying there is a lot more to it than the rig. However, the Reeves, is very, very good.

| | My geekiness is only balanced by being in a band | | Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Wilton, Iowa | | | I had (still have actually) a Behringer BX4500H that I used for a good 2 years when I started out and I never had any problems with it. Pushed it pretty hard sometimes, too.
Just figured I'd balance it out with a story from the other side of things. I'd never argue that all Behringer products are good, but mine turned out fine. |

I have, and have had, a bunch of different heads that I have tried over the years...but I keep coming back to it. I think I bought it used for $125 almost 10 yrs ago....and its still kickin.

| | | | My experience with Behringer is that they're suspect. When I first bought an amp all I could afford at the time was a BX3000. It was nowhere close to the 300 watts it was said to put out and sounded like mud. No headroom whatsoever.
After struggling with it for a few months, I found an 800RB on CL and was blown away by GK's 300 watts. Louder, clearer, just better. |

They're the low end amps that most of us wouldn't be caught dead with. | That’s how Peavey was viewed, at least in my circles, in my early playing days. What “hackers” played; what you had if you couldn’t afford a REAL amp.
Of course, that was in the days when Toyotas and Honda cars were also considered cheap, second class automobiles; almost like “toy” cars. More recently Hyundai and now Kia seem to have transitioned from a crappy alternative to a REAL car into perceived competitive quality rides.
Even though I now know that Peavey builds (and for that matter always did build) good gear for the money, I still have that stigma in my mind and “wouldn't be caught dead with” a Peavey rig. I’ll suggest Peavey to novice players asking me for advice, but can’t bring myself to use them personally.
Maybe Behringer will make the same transformation; could they be the “Peavey” of this generation? In decades to come will the TB “professionals” be recommending Behringer gear as an affordable, quality, “stigma free” rig choice?
