Aguilar 4 8x10 set up.

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was at slightly stoopid, steel pulse, and the expendibles a couple nights ago and the amp system they were using was intense to say the least (Expesily with those purps in my system) . All three bands used a Aguilar 8x10 setup only there were four of them. Two on each side of the stage. Lets just say it shook you.

What I am wondering is if anyone knows what head they used?

Also any one see em this tour?

Does the Aggi 8x10 come in 8 ohms? Is so any 2 ohm capable amp would do it.

If not, my guess is they used 2 amps slaved together and running 2 cabs each..... possibly even a 2 channel poweramp with a separate preamp.

The only thing is that it was so loud there was now way they were splitting the power between amps.

That's not what I meant. I was suggesting they split the signal from the bass in 2, then amplified BOTH of them. That'd be loud don't ya reckon? If you had 2 heads all you'd need to do is take a line from the XLR out on one amp to the input of the other.

Oh I thought you meant splitting the power. Maybe they had just some power amps to bump the amps with them running through the heads. I was right up front and my hearing was DEAD.

Steel Pulse was def. one of the best bands ive seen for a while.

Was this in a club or an outdoor stage?

It is entirely possible that there were no amps, the cabs were only stage props and the thunderous bass you heard was coming only from the house PA. It's also possible that there was simply one amp, powering one cab and the other 3 were props. It could have been two amps powering two cabs each. See where i'm going with this? Unless you actually followed the signal from the bass to your ears, there are too many ways of amplifying/projecting bass to even form an educated guess as to exactly what they were using.

However if they were using four aggie cabs on stage, i would imagine one or more of the bands are endorsed by them, and would probably be using an aguilar head (or four) to power them.

If they had than many cabs on stage it is likely that they weren't even running the bass through the PA... I certainly wouldn't want to be the engineer having to work the mix with that much bass coming off the stage.

+1. None of us can know for sure but that ridiculous level of bass could simply have been a number of big subwoofers pounding away.

reggae bands do like to hear the bass well. but don't forget that the vast majority of amps come with a volume control, so it could be that they were just trying to spread out the sound more evenly across the stage and not going for huge stage volume. i often run an 810 at piddly volume just because i like the sound of the 810.
