I liked mine for the couple years that I had it. Don't miss it on a daily basis, but I sure wouldn't say no if I had the chance to grab one for a good price.
They are relatively heavy in weight. No micro offerings... yet. |

They always sounded great with little or no EQing (AG500) and seemed to work especially well with my Suhr Jazz Bass. |

I can say that I came back to bass last year and was not familiar with the brand either. After reading in this site and reviews elsewhere, I bought a DB750. It's incredibly powerful and loud. By powerful I mean that it delivers a deep fundamental solidity with each note that I didn't hear with previous amps (such as GK). The downside (for some) is that the preamp section is relatively basic and will not provide a wide variety of tones. I was concerned about this at first but it no longer bothers me as what it does do, it does very well. Some have also said that it sounds a bit slow, or pillowy. This can be tweaked with a tube roll. They seem well-built and can take some knocks (but gotta be racked). |

The two amps are significantly different in character, with DB750 having a "woolier" tube-like sound while the AG500, being all solid state, is tighter. It's popular to roll various tubes into the DB750's preamp, particularly V1, to tighten up the sound.
I prefer the GS cabs over DB cabs. DB cabs are more "old-school" vintage sounding with accentuated low mids, while the GS have more of a modern full-range sound.
Anyway, Aguilar is top-quality high-end gear. If you like the way it sounds, you won't go wrong by acquiring some.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2004 Location: Oklahoma City, OK | | | I spent years straying from my Number One Lady: the DB750. Other chicks we're easier to carry in and out, provided more flexibility, and we're certainly a cheaper date, but yet I have returned again to her pillowy warmth. Sure, she's a little big-boned, but she's thick in all the RIGHT places. Baby, I won't stray again!!! Everytime your blue eyes flash at me with that 'i'm ready to bury the drummer AND the guitar player if you want me to' look and I pluck the first note, I quickly forget how much you weigh. |

| | | | I run GS112's with an SWR SM400.
I rate the cabs highly and swapped my Goliath and SoB for the GS's and I consider than a better move for me.
I would like to get hold of a DB750 or 751 to see if the amps are as good as the cabs. I suspect they will be but at this level of kit, you aren't so much talking about good or bad kit, more what you really like down to fine detail.
I would not get rid of the SWR SM tho.. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
