Aguilar 750 questions

Sign in to disble this ad
gents,

I've got GAS pretty bad and think I might go after an Aguilar db750 but have never really heard one. I did play an aggie about 7 years ago, a smaller head, maybe a 6 something at Larry Morgan's Music in Texas. It was nice but didn't blow me away.

My question is..I currently have a Crest Ca6 and a Demeter VTB201s....is the Aguilar going to blow me away compared to my current situation, or will I hardly notice? Has anybody experienced both of these amps? Or would I be better off keeping the Crest and finding and aguilar preamp to team with it?

well, unfortunately, the ag500, which you probably played is nothing like the animal that is the 750.

but that's a tough call,

the crest sleds, namely the ca9, are the closest many have said that does the aguilar mosfet fed power and kick. but, the preamp sections are quite different. your demeter is sweet and very clear. the aguilar section has that clarity, but also adds that grind and grunt that just shouts "aguilar" to me. so if you want a tougher more hard rockin' kind of tone, the 750 could be a nice complement to your cleaner dem/crest rig.

I know I'm gonna feel sorry to say this as an avid Aguilar lover but, try the TC Electronic Classic450. I bought one and the DB750 is hanging by a thread. The TC can get so close to that sound that I cannot justify to keep both.

Also, that Crest power amp is suppossed to be the best around for that thick powerful sound. Try it with an Aguilar DB659 preamp if you wanna stay in the pre/power amp route, if not, sell both and get the DB750. I think it may be lighter than the pre and Crest setup.
