Aguilar AG 500 SC muting?

I just bought an Aguilar AG 500 SC . I LOVE IT!! but i was curious if anyone knows if i have to have the Aguilar foot switch to mute it? or if the foot switch control is busted.I plugged in a standard foot switch and indicates that its on But theres no signal

help?
