Need some help guys. I have an Aguilar gs412 and would like to know how would the aguilar gs500 sound with this cab. I have a carvin bx1200 and would like to purchase an aguilar ag500. How is the sound of the ag500? good slapping sound? good rock sound? Is it loud enough for big gigs? Thanks all

If you are looking in buying this cab go for it. Its deep, clean, loud, and cuts through the mix really good. The cab is close to ear level which helps a lot. Its the best cab I have playedplayed

Thumbs up

For me this is an amazing head. Great for slapping, rock, funk, r&b. It has a very clean but not bland sound. Its extremely quick but not too quick like SWR or some other "boutique" solid state head. Lastly it has that Aguilar sound, which is a very sweet sound.

A lot of pop players use this head because it can go from clean to aggressive without too much work.

The combination with GS412 is amazing. Very accurate amd pleasing sound. Cant go wrong.

I've been running that rig for a while now... I think ANY of the Aguilar amps ..or any amp actually.. would sound good with the GS412. Im currently waiting on the new TH500 head and have owned a DB751. If you have the money and can lug it around.. Go for the DB751! Im getting the TH500 because it's a lot closer in tone to the DB751 then the AG500. The AG500's distortion channel is amazing.. I hope I dont miss it much.

What do you consider "big" ...usually if they're big they have PA support? I've done clubs 200ish people with no PA support and Ive used my head and cab over an all tube SVT and 810 backline with absolutely no regret. I play in a loud band.. Two guitarist.. One with a 120watt tube peavey head and the other with an axefx and power amp with 3x the watts.. Loud drummer.. The head and cab is more then enough. The DB751 was almost over kill... Tone for days though

The ONLY downside to an AG500/GS412 rig is that the channel switching has a half-second 'stutter' that bugged the hell out of me. If you won't be switching during songs then it won't matter to you. I had that rig and it sounded amazing!!!

Unless you NEED the distortion, The AG500SC is ALL you'll need. It sounds bigger than it's 500 watt rating, as if 500 watts isn't enough these days! This head has MAJOR MUSCLE.
With a GS412 it will KILL!

I felt like the clean channel could have used a little more 'zing' in the high end, but everything said above is true - it's powerful as all get out!!!

I noticed that compared to the distortion channel the high end is a lot rounder

Yeah, if I had my 'druthers, I wish the AG500 had a little more agressive top end and growl in the clean channel, had a little more clean available in the dirty channel (even at it's lowest saturation setting, it's still pretty gritty, though it sounds great), and I wish the channel switching was more instantaneous. I was able to get around the slight tonal issues by using an Xotic BB in front of it, but the channel switching bugged me too much. Having said that, it's a fantastic amp, looks cool, sounds great, pretty lightweight, great match to the GS412 and I think you'll love it!!!

I tried the ag500 sc today. It was loud and sounded good but it was missing something for my taste. Maybe I need to play with it more.

I personally like the Tonehammer 500 over the AG500 (tonally).

I use 2 x GS 210's with my AG 500sc and it sounds great for funk, r&b and classic rock. I'm curious to hear this same head with the GS 412. The eq section on the AG 500sc is too simple for me. It needs some sweepable mids. It's easy to use, that's for sure but they kind of dumbed down the eq. The Tone Hammer has a much more versatile eq and so does the DB 751. Aguilar sets a high price for their gear. They should also challenge us to use a more versatile eq system.

My only advice is not to trust the sound you hear while playing by yourself. The best EQ setting I found for every bass was with everything nearly flat and then boosting the bass frequency level, gain, and volume. It's a very mid-present amp but the low end is massive once you get it in a band setting.
