Aguilar AG500SC problem: amp clipping?

Sign in to disble this ad
I own this rig:

Which has a fan-friggin'-tastic sound and I LOVE this amp, but there's a problem.

If I have a gig with NONA, the amp tends to clip. The clipping light doesn't light up, but still... I have the settings more or less like this:

The "Bright"-button is off, "Deep" is on.

At first I thought it was the tweeters of my DB112 cabs, but they're off all the time, and I recently made a live recording where I took the signal directly out of the DI output, and you could hear the clipping in the recording. It happens mainly when I pick louder (I always play fingerstyle), and the bass I use doesn't make a difference...

I guess it's not normal for a top class amp like this to clip at these settings, right? What could be the problem? I was also puzzled 'cause the "clip" light wasn't lighting up, so it might be the power amp...?

Heeeeeeeelp

are you sure it is isnt the basses pickups or preamp that makes this sound? I have played some basses that get pretty farty when played hard.

Nope, the bass is passive and it also says in the OP that it doesn't matter which bass I use

honestly,

w/ the settings you have alongside those db cabs, you should be leveling small trees.

i had the same prob a few years back w/ my ag500. but after the shop literally replaced the entire board, been my main louder than EFF amp head.

So you're advicing me to have the entire board replaced? Isn't that REALLY expensive?

well, my advice is to send it in to aguilar... mine was under warranty, and the board was replaced free of charge.

Do you have any idea what the cause of this problem is? I'm just curious...

Well, I've sent a message to Paul's Bass Matters, hopefully my amp is still in its warranty period.
