Which Aguilar Cabinet?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am getting into a semi-serious band, so it's time to upgrade my rig. Been meaning to do it for some time anyway, but now with a new job I will be making some decent money.

I'm mostly set on a Tone Hammer 500 for my head, was looking into the pedal but I need an amp anyway so it seemed like the smart decision. I am trying to decide on which setup I'd like to do. Ideally I love to get a 115 and a 410, but with funds and the venues I'd be playing, I think it might be a little much. Looking into the DB 410 and GS 410. I've have gathered as much info as I could find, but that is making my decision even harder. This will be my first real big amp and cab purchase, and I am looking for something long term. Right now I am playing through a Fender BXR 100 combo, which is mostly for practice or small gigs. The setup is two guitar players, singer, drummer, and me. Alternative rock, A Day to Remember type of sound.

Not seeing a whole lot of people that play through Aguilar cabinets. If anyone has or has had one, I'd like some input.

If I were going with an Aggie head, I'd pair it with a Bergantino AE410. Just be sure you get the slip-cover(and USE it) since your looking long-term. A Berg I bought back in '07 and gig with every weekend still looks brand spankin new.

I like the DB cabs, but if you don't test them out for yourself, it's pointless trying to decide. No substitute for hands on, (ears) when buying gear.

I'm a fan of the Aggie DB-series cabs. The DB410 is a punchy beast and works awesome in a rock setting.

I'm only selling my DB410 becuase I'm in need of money (too bad you're not in SoCal), and my DB115 and DB210 serve the music I'm playing better.

I've used it with my Aguilar DB750 and an SVT-CL. It was awesome with both amps. In fact, I prefer the DB410 cab to the Ampeg SVT410HLF with the SVT.

I also am a fan of the DB series. I have had a GS212 as well as a DB112, now playing through a DB212. The DB's cut through the mix like the GS didn't, in my band.

I also agree that you just have to hear it, and listen to it in the mix to see what best serves your band's sound. Good luck!

I'd describe the GS series of cabs as more smooth and fat and the DB's as punchy and aggressive.

I dig both lines of cabs but right now the DB line is more my taste.

Where are you in MI? I have a chocolate thunder DB410 I'm thinking of selling (and don't want to ship). It's a great cab, I'm just looking to downsize right now.

Nothing wrong with brown! I rock two monster green db112s with a thunderfunk 550b for my smaller shows! Im a huge fan of the db series! I have played the gs and find them more scooped! Apparently the DB series has more of a mid punch available when needed.......I dont generally like MID PUNCH but........I think its best described as the GS being more mid scooped and moedern and the dbs more full range and old school thumpy? Just my 2 cents!

+1 This is usually how I hear them described. I've heard some people complain of the DB series as too midrangey, but clearly not everyone perceives them that way. YMMV, I personally haven't heard the DB series but I gigged a GS410 for a while. Really nice cab, gets deep and loud, but still stays punchy and clear. I would still have the GS410, but the NV610 is my forever cab.

Aguilar's Chocolate Thunder (brown) cabinets look great.

Also, do some research before getting a 1-15 cabinet to go with that brown cabinet you should buy.

If that's your plan, make sure you get an 8 ohm DB410, or make sure your amp can handle less than 4 ohms.

The 410/15 combo is discussed here regularly, and basically looked at as a not ideal pairing. Research that a bit. Matching cabs are always the best way to go.

I use 2 DB210's for that easier carry altho I think 410's have wheels anyway.
2x210 serve up a very nice big sound, IMO.

I don't think there is that much difference between GS and DB cabs if you use decent strings as both will therefore cut through easily enough.
If you like a dull old thump then go DB for that little extra help. GS cabs need a peakier bass sound to get the best out of them, IMO.

The DB series is a very good looking cab as well.
