Aguilar Cabs?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm getting back into bass (Which I love much more than any other instrument) after playing exclusively guitar for a couple of years. I need help deciding on a which Aguilar cab to use the DB 210 or GS112? Also, what would be a nice head to use with the cabs? Sorry if I haven't given enough information, if you need more just ask

I had a pair of GS112s for a few months thinking it would sound as good as a pair of 210 cabs - sounded good in the store, not so good at a gig - farted out. I play a 5 string with active electronics. I've heard of some folks on here swapping out the stock 12s for something better, but that's no guarantee. It really depends on how loud you need to be. A pair of GS112 will handle small to medium clubs with no pa support. A single 12 would be good for low vol or coffee house gigs - that's about it. Are you playing a 4 or 5? Are you set on Aguilar? Why not get one of their heads as well? I like matching gear if possible. If you're looking at one cab only, I'd say the DB210 is the way to go. A pair of either one would be great for larger gigs.

I'm not 100% set on Aguilar, I just like looks of their stuff and dig the sound of their larger stuff. My main thing though is not having to haul a big rig around to gigs. Our band has a very nice PA we take to gigs that don't supply one, so I can DI or Mic the cab. So really I just want a semi-portable, Aguilar-esque rig.

I just took a look at their TH500 amp, street price of $699. I wonder if they're making stuff overseas too? I know we're not supposed to bash stuff made overeas, but I have a thing for stuff being made here, so all my cabs are made here in So Cal by a local audio company and I've been using a Walter Woods 1200W head for years. My preference is a pair of 210 cabs stacked vertically. A pair of 12s didn't work for me and a 212 is too big and heavy. Same goes for 410s and 412s and 810s - don't want to move big and heavy stuff around. My pair of 210 cabs fit in the very back section of my Jeep and are quite easy to move around. Aguilar is doing something right - their list of pro players is pretty impressive.

TH500 is made in USA and so are their neo cabs... look at SL112 to pair with a TH500.
