Aguilar Cabs DB GS tone questions, any experience with aggie cabs appreciated.

I currently own 2 8ohm gs210's and a gs212. I am currently selling the 2 210's in the classifieds.

I have 2 8ohm db 212's on order.

I love Aguilar GS Cabs, I am just trying to see if I made the right purchase with the DB 212. I have played a DB112 and liked it, but I was not really tuned into how MUCH different it sounded versus say my GS212.

I got an insane deal on these cabs, but I played a GS410 with a GS115 and that GS115 really really shined. Its an ungodly cab. I love my GS 212 but sometimes I wonder, if I had a GS115 would it be worth it. Anyways, I hope the DB212's will have a pleasing aguilar tone that I have grown to really love.

I really want some aguilar 15's...

The DB's use the same drivers and tweeters as the GS. The boxes use thicker, stiffer (and unfortunately heavier) wood, and the boxes are tuned quite differently. As a result, there is a mid mid presence to the DB cabs that the GS's don't have, with similar low end and top end.

I greatly prefer the DB's to the GS's (which I found a bit scooped, lacking low mid punch, and having quite a hole between the top of the driver and the tweeter). However, to those who dig the more modern, wide GS tone, the DB's can sound overly mid present.

The DB112 continues to be one of the best 112's I've heard personally... deep, but warm and punchy in the mids, and to my ear, a nicer transition from the upper mids from the top of the driver to the tweeter, which makes the top end sound 'sweeter' to me.

IMO there. The downside to the DB112's for me is weight and the 'wide deep short' format that makes schlepping them a bit of a pain.

I have played both. I think I prefer a cab with a more neutral sound instead of one with honk. You can always ad mids to the former but it's hard as hell to remove honk from the latter.

Pretty much personal taste there. I pretty much always find 'removing' is an easier and more musical sounding approach than trying to add something that is not there (the old 'studio' approach to EQ... 'a little bit of cut goes a long way').

However, +1, to some the GS's sound scooped and uneven and the DB's sound a bit more even through the entire frequency range of the cab. To others, the GS's sound more neutral and the DB's sound mid humped (supporting my old TB joke that every cab is 'flat and even' to those that like a particular cab's tone!).

The good news is, virtually everyone describes these cabs similarly, and it just gets down to pure personal preference!

True, it's a question of where you like your mids, your amp or your cabinet, or both.....or neither.

Hey Kjung, thanks for your responses man.

Yeah, I play with a WT550 and my 8ohm gs212 and its not enough volume for me, but I love the tone. The 2 210's are nice too.

So, I am hoping that the DB will have that pleasing aggie tone I love with more mids to push me thru the mix. I play loud.

We will see.
