Question AGUILAR DB 212 OR EPIFANI UL2 212 ???

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello. I want to get one of these two cabs but I can't test them before i buy, local stores dont heve them in stock

I really like the Aguilar DB 212 in green moster and because they make it at 8 ohm which is what I want. The Aguilar is heavier (70lbs) and it doesn't have the tweeter control on the back and it has only one speakon input but no output.

On the Epifani side I dont really like how it looks and they only make it at 4 ohm. Epifani is lighter (56lbs) and it has tweeter control on the back and one speakon input and one output.
I woul totally buy the Epifani UL2 212 if they make it at 8ohm.

I know they are bough awesome cabs.
What are the pros and cons about each cab. What are the advantages and disvantages about the tweeter control on the back of the cab?

Thanks in advace.

IIRC the Aguilar cab will be much more mid-focused.

FWIW, the DB 212 has a tweeter control on the back, and one speakon and two quarter inch speaker connections. On all cabinets of this type, the connections are all parallel inputs although many think of them as outputs.

Thanks for answering Dave. Please can you tell me more about these cabs.
Are they all the same? The DB series cabs?
This a pic of the Aguilar DB 115 and I dont see a tweeter control there.
Thanks.

Ah...in the DB series the DB 115 has no tweeter, and therefore no tweeter control. We also make a DB 112NT (no tweeter). All the rest, including the DB 212, have tweeters with variable tweeter control.

The 2 sound very different, and my ears prefer the DB's. And, I've owned both.

What kind of music do you play? What head did you use?
Thanks.

I have a Monster Green DB212 and it's so good I ordered a second one, arriving soon at a dealer some distance away from me... Good choice, and Monster Green is just awesome. Worth the wait I am sure. Congrats in advance!

I use a Mesa Walkabout head with either just the DB112nt, or stacked atop a GB Uber 212. I play synthy proggressive rock, and use an analog keyboard synthesizer as often as bass guitar.

I've had both and it's the DB for me. These cabs are like complete opposites to me. I like the mid forward DB's and currently have a DB410 in chocolate Thunder. It seemed like the middle was missing from the Epi UL I had. I think I got rid of the UL after a month or so. The DB's are some of the best sounding cabs IMHO if you can lift the weight of them.

With a little frowny EQ, the UL cabinet sounds absolutely amazing; but every players preference is their own.

Regardless of whichever you go with, you are sure to be upgrading from the GK 15 you have (if your profile is up to date). The fullness of sound that either of these cabs you are considering should destroy the combo.

I've been down the Epi 212 road as well. It was an older T-212D, which was not neo, but the same sized cabinet. It sounded great, got loud enough for me. The mids are slightly attenuated at certain different spots than 10's, but bark at you a little more in the mid-low area. In the end I was always twiddling knobs a lot and the cabinet barely fit in my car. I ran it 4ohms off an SVT-3 Pro. I played lots of pop music; covers; and original hard/progressive rock with that thing.

I ended up getting rid of the 212 and went with an Epifani UL410S1. This cab has it all, all the lows, all the mids, all the highs (without harshness) was smaller and weights the same 56lbs. I really run my EQ flat all the time now, never need nor preferring tweaks to it. I have played all the same music above, plus blues, jazz, funk, and soul with this thing. There is not a style of music I could not take this cabinet too at all.

Sorry to chime in with the 410 experience info, but for me the 212 didn't cut it. I'd urge you to try them out before you purchase.

Shop around, i ended up with a UL410 for the same price as a new UL212. Joel @ the grooveshop made it almost impossible to turn the deal down.
