The 680 is definitely one of the best I have had.

Here is a video of it and my pre.

In spite of the fact that there are fewer connections and potentiometers of control, the preamp Monique de Jule Amps Potter is really excellent with his two tubes All octall 6SL7 and his very high quality components .

I can't say one pre is better than another because every piece of gear is distinct and may suit one of us better than another. Now that I've said that.......the Glock is the best SS pre out there. To me. Warmer, to me than most tubed pres. The eq is incredible. Everything actually does what you want it to do. Effects loop with level control and a high pass. My point is that it's designed specifically for bassists. It can grind by cranking the pre.

The Kern if you find one used was the reigning champ of tube pres. Two 12ax7s for the pre, one 12au7 for the DI. Ceramic sockets bespeak the mil spec nature of this unit. It's not limited to your Fender tone stack sounds but can do hi-end tube stereo clear. There was one for sale on the classified. I loved mine.

Now. The Jules Monique is in another universe. It sounds so wide and open it's hard to describe. Minute adjustments of it's minimal tone controls do everything!
It is fat and also McIntosh Super hi fi too. Rich and luscious it hangs on every string bend. Punchy, clear, all u can say is try one. It is like having power tubes.

Better is a very subjective term, but I'd gladly rock a DB680 (or any piece of Aggie equipment for that matter). Everything I have owned from them has been fantastic.

I just got a DB680 it is a very full sounding pre. So far I have been running it into the fx-return of my GK1001rbii. I am not sure about changing that because I really like the boost knob on the GK! I always liked the power section and boost but always thought the pre sounded kind of dry and prickly, never wimpy though. I immediately noticed how much rounder my bass sounded with the DB680 and the best part so far is how the boost knob on the 1001 interacts with the Aguilar. There is more pleasant harmonic content to "boost" and it sounds much more even over the frequency range. I am running the 1001 into an 8ohm GK NEO410. I really like the two band parametric eq, I find it useful at higher volumes. I really like the bass + and ++ switch and the bright switch interacts with the tweeter biamp section on the GK. The whole package is really well built and so far I am liking what I hear.
