Aguilar DB112 Enough?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

I'm thinking of picking up a single used Aguilar DB112 and getting a TH500 to go with it. Not sure if it'll be enough though? The band I'm playing with isn't real loud, and I'll always have front how house support, so it's really only for a little bit of stage volume. What do you guys think? Enough or should I be looking at more speakers or a 4 ohm cab?

Wouldn't be enough for me, but try it out and see. It would help if you raised it up on an amp stand or something, get it closer to ear level. Worst case, get a 2nd one for a sweet modular set up.

The TH500 would be putting out 250 watts with the one cab, and if you find that isn't enough, you can always just pick up a second to get the full 500

If you'd rather a single cab, you could look into the 4 ohm DB212, which is 600W RMS, then you'd be getting the full 500 from the head!

Maybe. If not, a pair should cut through most anything.

Cheers guys, gives me something to think about. I'm really hoping to downsize from my 410 but looking for a different/IMO better sound than I'm getting from my Ashdown. Guess the main thing is that it's loud enough to hear over our drummer.

Getting a second 112 down the track would be ideal but it could be a while before I have the cash.

The 'how loud is loud enough' question is always a tough one as it depends on your personal needs/bands/gigs/etc...

I found that a single cab was good enough for about 90% of situations - even gigs without a PA. That said - I'd rather a rig that is capable of 100% of situations - which is why the 2 x 112 cab solution is so damn cool. Take 2 when you need it, 1 when you don't. The DB112's are crazy loud - probably more so than a GS112 as it has a fuller mid presence.

What's your band? Could be one of my cabs you're looking at?

The DB212 is a beautiful one cab solution!

If all you need is a stage monitor, you should have no problem with a single DB112. I don't know anything about the amp but the cab can definitely do it.

Yeah Vin*Tone, it is one of your cabs! I posted on your OzBass thread last night saying I'm interested. Let me know how you go but I'm pretty sure I'll take either one off your hands.

Ryan.

I use a 38 pound Schroeder 1212bBMF cabinet ( 4 ohm 212) and it is one killer loud cab with an insanely light weight for the volume and punch it puts out. Easy to carry in one hand and its closer to your ears when playing. I think it would be crazy to not consider one of the newer lightweight 212 offerings out there.
