Question Aguilar DB750 with DB112 or SL112 or GS112

Is the DB750 (400 watts @ 8 Ohms) too much for the SL112 to handle? Of course I would take it easy, as the SL112 can only handle 250 Watts RMS.

Or would the DB112 be a better match in general? Sonically?

I've heard both the SL112 and the DB112 sound pretty similar, and heck, I'd always like to save some weight with the SL112....

What about the GS112 with the DB750? I had the DB112 with the DB750, but maybe the smoother GS would pair better with the 750??

I've tried it with both the DB112s and the GS112s. If you are talking about using the DB750 with one cab, it's overkill. The head weighs as much as the cab. You are looking at an 80lb+ for not a lot of dispersion. If I was using one semi light cab with the 750 I would look at a 212 or depending on your tonal goals maybe a 115.

As far as a better match, what are you trying to achieve sonically? If I'm taking out a 112 I usually don't need that much volume and all of the virtues of the DB750 are lost in using it in a "small' environment

+1 that's an awful lot of amplifier for a little 1x12.

What else sounds like a DB750 tho?
I ran a buddies DB750 into my Berg 1x12" and it was a fabulous match. Since, I've tried dozens of heads, and nothing else has that kind of big iron sound.

I use my DB750 with a DB112 and a DB112NT. Sounds great. For rehearsal I often take one cab, easily handles rehearsal volume (which is our case is close to gig volume!).

I hear you... I have used a single DB112 with the 750 previously, and thought it sounded awesome, but maybe I wasn't really getting much out of the 750 with just a single 12" speaker? Who knows.

Admittedly, I think there isn't equal to the DB750. I have used it with a berg 112 as well. Like it alot, but definitely sounds better with 2. Tried something a few weeks ago.. A HT112/HT210 combo with the 759. Gave me great top end with a nice bottom. I equate the DB750 to a Shelby Cobra... Raw and powerful... Does not perform well at low speeds. Works best when you can unleash full power.

Been doing some more research, and it seems most Aggie guys say the SL112 sits right in between the GS112 and the DB112. So it might be just the ticket! About $100 more than a DB112. I sure like the look of boss tweed though... will have to ponder it some more...
