Aguilar DB750 and DB751 Cost vs Value
 

I'm debating between buying a new DB751, or a mint condition DB750 from a friend.
The DB750 would be half the price of the DB751.
I've played a 750 before and really liked it. But my question is, do you think it would be worth it to drop the extra money on the 751?
The cost of the 751 isn't the issue. So with that aside, if you like the 751 better, do you like it substantially more than the 750? Enough to justify spending the extra money?

I've played both, as nice as the DB751 is, I prefer the DB750.

I have only played through a 751 in a store, but have owned and gigged a DB750 (had it for a couple years).

IMHO, I don't honestly see enough difference to spend the extra cash on the 751. If it were me, I would buy the 750 for less $$ and call it a day. YMMV, of course.

This is what I'm probably going to do. The 751 does intrigue me though. I've heard a lot of good things about the EQ.

a used DB750 plus a ToneHammer is cheaper than a new DB751

I like the eq of the DB751 better, but not twice as much better ...

I was contemplating the same issue recently, weighing options and prices between the two, and opted for a used DB 750. Couldn't be happier, and I rarely touch the EQ, leaving me with no regrets.

its not only the eq, the db751 fan is much more quiet and there is a little less hiss from the preamp stage. but thats it. i recently tried a db751 and didn't her a difference so i'll stick to my db750. also i like the looks better, especially the knobs :)

I own both and actually hear a significant difference between the two. I'm not sure if the pre on the 751 is active, but it definitely seems to react to changes much more drastically than the 750. The 751 also seems to be a much brighter amp, which is probably due to the mids being voiced higher than the 750. Personally, I actually think I prefer the 750 over the 751 after you change out the V1 tube for something a bit nicer than the stock one.

Has anyone seen a used DB750 for sale right now? I am trying hard to find one and cannot. I will consider buying a used Db751 as well but those are all around $2000. Fail.
