Aguilar GS 212 or (2) GS 112

Hey dudes,
So I have a LMII on the way so I want some new cabs.

My choices are either a 4ohm GS 212 or two 8ohm GS 112.
All things tonally the same I would go with the GS 112s due to the modular ability for a small rig if I want, and it would be easier to transport.

I assume that these guys are not tonally equal though. So what can you guys tell me about the tonal comparasons of these cabs. Which would you go with and why?

I have the GS212, 8 ohms and really like it. I preferred the 8 ohms so I can place a light weight 1 12 combo on top; closer to the ear and getting the full 4 ohm power using it as an extention cab. Although the GS212 is not in the light weight cab class, is not that heavy. If it was 90lbs I would go with 2 single 12 cabs, but even on small rooms a 2 12 cab is not overkill. Also, unless you raise a single 12 cab up, you will not get the true sound (your knees will hear it real well). My advice go GS212 4 or 8 0hms, hope that helps.

I use 2 GS112s with an Orange TB. I'd say go this route, because the second speaker comes a little higher than with a single 212 (they are mounted diagonally in GS212 cabs), and in my humble opinion it looks more kickass than a single cab

But in the end I think the tonal differences are insignificant. I like the additional portability of the modular approach.
But, I have to add, if you play in a rock band you will need the extra volume of the second speaker. So I would take the leave-one-part-at-home idea out of the equation.

My 2 cents.

I'd recommend the 212. I went the route of two 1x12 cabs and found moving the two was a pain. They would do crap like wobble off the dolly when my cart got hung up on a rug (wearing a tux)... I was always bending and stacking. More work than I anticipated. It was subtle. After a while, I started using one and that wasn't enough.

I think the easiest cab to move is the 8x10. You never bend over and it always leans and slides into the ride. Whatever...

I had both setups: GS212 and 2 GS112.

The best sounding to my ears were the 2 GS112 with DeltaLite 2512II by Eminence .... and they were lighter than with stock speakers....

Now I am using a 8 ohm db112 for inear and small gigs, a 4 ohm db212 for medium gigs and a combination of both for open air gigs

Mr. Clifton (or should I say Mr. Kaufman?), I have the same setup but with a 4ohm GS212! I'm guessing that you love it as much as I do. I digress...

In regards to the OP, I would probably opt for the 2 GS112 cabs in your case. However, that is if the extra bit of cash is no object, you are of perfectly able body, and the very slight increase in transportation hassle doesn't bother you. Monetary restrictions and limited car space helped me choose the GS212 but sometimes I wish I had a single 12" cab at my disposal. Maybe some day.
A single GS112 matches with the LMII so perfectly in terms of power handling and whatnot so I would be hard pressed to decide against the 2 individual cabs.
In my limited experience, I found the GS212 to have a *slightly* deeper low-end response than 2 GS112s but that isn't everyone's cup of tea. Most days I'm not convinced I need that extra low end. Maybe I would miss it if it weren't there. I dunno. Either way, you are making a great decision with Aguilar cabs. Let us know what you decide!
