Aguilar GS410 tweeter Q

I picked up an Aguilar GS410 on the cheap locally. The tweeter doesn't seem to work. I turned it all the way up and I don't hear a hiss coming out of it at all. I also own a pair of Aguilar DB112's without tweeters, so the lack of a tweeter doesn't bother me at all. Can I just turn the tweeter level down on the GS410 and just continue to use it as is with the non-functioning tweeter?

Yes. It shouldn't make a difference.

If you really wanted to get a definitive answer, call Aguilar. They are very easy to get in contact with.

Thank you very much.

Email to Aguilar dispatched. I'll report back with their response in case anyone else has a similar question.

Aguilar's response:

You can certainly use the GS 410 without the tweeter but it can be that you may just have to replace the tweeter diaphragm.

Of course, it could be that the prior owner disconnected it?

The diaphragm can be order from the page below:

So I disassembled the tweeter and it's definitely shot - no reading across the terminals with my multimeter. I went to the Aguilar store and saw that they sell the tweeter for $40 + shipping. Found that a bit too much considering the size and simplicity of the part so I starting poking around online, plugging in part numbers and manufacturers. Found this, which should be a direct replacement but might have a longer tab but shouldn't affect functionality:

$27.69 shipped to my door. I'll report back after it arrives and I give it a test.

You'll pay $30 for a part that might work rather than $40 for the correct part! False economy in my mind.

I'm 99% sure it's the same part Aggie sells. I replaced mine in a GS212 with the Aggie part. I wasn't aware at the time that I could get the same thing elsewhere. You'll be fine. It's a simple swap too.

Correction - $28 vs. $47.

I'm 99% sure that I'll be fine, as well.

I gambled and won - it fits and functions perfectly. Already installed and tested in the cab.

New on the left, old on the right.

Installed on the magnet.
