Aguilar horn level

Here's a stupid one, i use my GS410 with my horn level completely off most of the time (exept on large venues) and one night, a soundman told me that i will damage something on my cab if i keep doing this. Is that true . Have you ever heard of something like this ?

Thanks

That sounds like a weird caution. I don't believe it. Plenty of people play loudly with their tweeters off.

That's a new one. Is there someone out there who just makes this stuff up for giggles?

Some truth to it. At high power levels, and the L-pad turned all the way off, the high frequency energy can build up as heat, which can possibly damage the L-pad or crossover.
I don't think it's a common occurrence, but I always let a little HF signal in to be safe.

FWIW, I had inquired at Aguilar about running my Aguilar cabs with the tweeters off and Marco didn't say anything about it being potentially harmful (though my question had not been specifically about damage).

If you're really worried, shoot them an email, they are EXTREMELY helpful and responsive in my experience.

I have heard the same thing about potential damage to the horn. You may want to disconnect the horn if you don't use it, or just keep it on a little bit to allow current to flow through the circuit.

This. Most good cabs these days have a crossover that allows a bit of current through even when the horn is turned "off" in order to prevent this problem.

Right, they designed and built the cab so if they say it's ok then I'm bullet proof.

Thanks

Here's the answer that I got...

Hi Steve,

Thank you for using the GS 410 cabinet and for your kind words!

The heat generated by the tweeter has to go somewhere; but the attenuator is designed to be fine turned off or on.

Please let me know if I can assist further.

Kind regards,

Wow, got an answer the same day, now I know two things, first...I can let my horn attenuator off and second, Aguilar support is really great !!!

Its all about design margins. If they do it right, there should be not problem. If they did not do it right, it's a crap design. I bet Aguilar has done it right.
