Not IME. The drive has a multiplier effect with the gain. If the gain is under 9:00, go nuts with the drive and there's little volume change. If gain is at noon, it can boost/cut the signal a good bit. If gain is maxed, there's a very big change. I guess from those plots, maybe it's mostly in that 2.5kHz range? Sounds like a wider boost though. Hmm...

Dave also explained that the master volume is essentially at the end of the preamp, so I'm not afraid to run it wide open if I need to for a given gain/drive combo.

There's also the weird thing where the gain can be totally CCW and with the master up enough, you can get a decent signal out.

Definitely makes you rethink your conceptual model of how an amp works.

Anyone else have any clever EQ ideas to try out with the TH500?

I've had good results putting an FDeck high pass filter (HPF Series 3) in front of the input to cut off the signal below 35 Hz (take out the subby mud, IOW), then goosing the bass tone control to phatten (!) my sound up.

Thinking of Eublet's charts, above, that's a way to run the drive control low and still tame the sub freqs.

I've been pushing the bass level up when running it into my modded PF115 cabs. There's plenty there. It only needs a small boost & pow! There's a huge fat ass end, & now that these cabs have drivers that can handle a decent amount of power AND bottom end, the cabs handle it.
Last nite we did our 11 piece Motown show & I used ONE modded PF115 & the TH500,
I bumped up the DRIVE control,
kept the GAIN at about 10 o'clock (MASTER iirc, was around 2 o'clock),
BASS about 1.30,
MID boosted to 12.30 @ approx 11 o'clock on the MID FREQ control. TREBLE- 1 o'clock (tweeter in cab OFF)
Gave me great old school punch.

If I used a standard PF115 (un-modded) it would've been fart city. I would've needed two of em. But with the 3015 in there, it's more like a decent old EV cab & can handle pretty loud gigs on it's own.

My Aguilar order has been shipped. Fed Ex has my Tone Hammer 500 and DB212 cabinet with separate tracking numbers. I should be getting both of them on Monday. I can't wait to plug my new Fender Jazz 24 fret active bass into the Aguilar!

Love it! Still learning how to work the gain and drive knobs together. Rich and elegant sounding. Here is my review Review of the Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 and DB212

I decided to roll by Bass San Diego today and I picked up a TH500! So far i love it! The sound is exactly what i thought it would be and more. I am so looking forward to hear how it sounds in a band context. It sounds great with my Schro's!

Did you happen to play or try any other amps while you were there? Obviously the Th500 is the one you bought. Just wondering if you did any A-B comparisons?

I just demo's a friends TH500 this weekend. Very impressive, musical, versatile, powerful. Liked it a lot.

Honestly no. I compared it next to my GK 800RB here at home and there was no contest. Two completely different animals, but to what "i look for in a sound", the Aggie won hands down. Fat, meaty, and well... LOUD!
I did test the amp with a Berg 212 and 112 (i'm not familiar enough to say which series they were, other than that the 212 was 4ohm).

I had never been to Bass San Diego before, it's way cool!

Wow!

I'm in awe of the tonality of this head with a MESA Scout 12/4 ohm cabinet. Barely had to touch tone knobs. I tweaked the
Mids for experimental purposes and keep coming back to flat.

Used an 1983 MIJ alder body, maple/maple neck with Fralin P pickup and strung with GHS Precision Steel Flatwounds

The volume and tone knobs were wide open and was able to play dynamically.

Compliments from the drummer and crowd along with how I felt confirmed again that this amp is awesome!

I'm sure most of you either already have the TH500 or have seen this but, for those wanting one and checking this thread, Amazon has a couple left for around $545 after the additional 15% off at checkout. Less than they're too going for used...

That's a good price. The 15% off at GC or MF yields you a $594 out the door price.

Are you kidding me? I just purchased one for $555.14 after discount. I was looking for a used one, but at that crazy price, I couldn't wait.

Better hurry, 'cuz there is only one left.

There's one more SL112 cab left for about $585 (after 15% off at checkout) if someone's looking for that.

Tax to? Didn't see that. I put one in my cart earlier, but couldn't quite pull the trigger.

Same with MF. I noticed that before i decided to buy local. I got 2 speakons and the carrying bag for what i would've paid with the MF Black Friday special. Mine was "In Stock" and playable that afternoon however..... ...

This is eating at you isnt it? Go ahead and do MF! They have a great return policy. You know you want it.. bad....

MF and Amazon are charging sales tax in California. It stinks but the state really needs the tax revenue.
