| | I'm only here for the Afterparty | | Join Date: Mar 2011 Location: San Diego | | | I was able to use my new TH500 tonight in a band setting for the first time and i am just impressed. LOUD for sure! I didn't have to do hardly any EQ tweaking to have it fit just right in the mix. I had the Drive & Gain at 10:00, bass & treble at noon and a slight bump up in the lower range of the mids (about 10:00 on the Mid freq knob). For the situation i was in, it was absolutely perfect. I can't wait until next time!
This little amp just has that something about it.

Yes? | I will have a better idea on wednesday when i have the full band. Tonight was just a trap kit and medium sized geetar combo (that was pretty cranked however). Next rehearsal I'll be up against a Marshall 1/2 stack and a Dual Rec 212.
I play my Fender Jazz V most of the time, and some of the notes that tend to thin out the further you go up the fingerboard didn't do that tonight. I know i didn't get a new technique in the last 24 hours so i'm gonna have to say the amp had something to do with that.
It just sounded good.

Interesting how the drive tightens it all up & supplies a vintage tone. Leave it off & a far more "open" not modern, tone surfaces.
Magic stuff.

| | | | Granted one amp is not best suited for everyone, however I was able to compare my TH500 to 4 popular amps on the forum recently, and for me the TH 500 was still the winner. Main reasons are the following
1. No tubes to worry.
2. The rich tone from this solid state amp. Not sterile, not too clean, a little character which helps me not miss my heavy tube amp.
3. Sounds great with EQ flat. Just a touch more bass and treble with my jazz bass and its perfect.
4. Gain and drive knobs makes the unit very flexible with lots of tones to work with.
5. American made company
6. The DB212 cabinet is not so big and heavy so transporting it is not an issue like many heavy and wide cabinets. Oh yeah the cabinet sounds great too. |

I LOVE this report!! Curious what were the main amps you compared?

I did send you a pm on the amps I compared it to. | Point well taken. No worries at all. But for sake of contrast and yet another data point, I had a chance to compare a friends TH500 over the holiday weekend in my music room ...to my Orange TB500h. Granted, we all have our preferences. But both of us preferred the Orange. (thru my Bergantino AE410) That said, I liked the TH500 so much for what it brings to the table that I still want one. It does have a signature 'Aguilar' sound that I find to be "Wonderful!" and I think the Aguilar TH500 may be more versatile. But for plug and play and the sound I like and want lately, I am LOVING the Orange TB500H. Kinda Surprised there isn't more buzz about the Orange Terror TB500 among some of my contemporaries.
Again, This does not discredit the TH500. I Absolutely see why so many people love the amp. If I can only have one, I'm keeping the Orange for now. But I ReaLLY want to spend more time with the Aguilar Th500 because it is so flexible, it may take more time to 'dial in' "my sound." what I heard however, I know I could love it too!

I have tried countless other cabs, and some pretty high end gear, (although none of the super 12 cabinets) but I come back to THIS DB tone.

| | I'm only here for the Afterparty | | Join Date: Mar 2011 Location: San Diego | | I played my TH500 with a full band tonight and all i can say is WOW!! The sound is so much more "round" than my GK 800RB. I never had the volume past 10:00 and completely drowned out the 212 Dual Rec and the Marshall 1/2 stack. To be honest i didn't even change the settings i used a couple of nights ago. The harder you play, the notes take on a nice little "grunt" and just cut through the mix.
I was cranking tonight, and never even saw the clip light. what color is it anyway?
I haven't read about many Schroeder Cab owners using this head, but man, the Schro's love it!

I have a TH500 and I want to run two 8 ohm cabinets off of it to take advantage of the full 500 watts at 4 ohms.
Do I have to run each cabinet off of the two outputs on the back of the head or can I run one output on the back of the head to one cab and then run a speaker wire from that cab to the second one?
I hope I made sense... |

I hope I made sense... | You can do either, as long as the 8 ohm cabinets are "normal" and wired in parallel. |
