Running the 212PL or the 15PL solo, the amp sounds great. Running both cabs together, the amp sounds FANTASTIC.
The thing is, i haven't changed the settings yet! I found a sweet tone to my liking, and surprisingly its worked great in multiple environments.

I brought it to use with the house cab at Bowery Ballroom last Saturday, and not only did it make the cab sound good, but the DI signal to the house was massive and clean.
Happy sound guys, happy bass player, happy crowd! |

Happy sound guys, happy bass player, happy crowd! | That "massive and clean" thing is the Aguilar monkey-love in the DB751, TH
Pedal and TH500 and that's why I'm an owner!!!
I tried the pedal in the studio and in front of an M6 into a PH 210.
I've sold the M6 and GK MB500 and waiting for the right back-up to present itself....
Bottom line... TH500 kills it!

I use my TH500 with this fEARful stack. It's very warm and punchy. These fEARfuls make perfect use of every Aguilar watt. I can always get great tones from my Aguilar amps-like this one my DB 680. And with my fEARful cabs it's like an iron fist inside of velvet glove type of tone. Here's my modular rig.

In a band context, my Lulls have been sitting better besides the fact I don't need a 6 in that situation. For the situations that I need a 6, like playing a bunch of duet gigs with my wife on cello, I've been playing my old neck thru Carvin loaded with Barts; better sustain and closer spacing for chords. I honestly hadn't plugged the MTD into the TH500 since I got it a couple of months ago... until today.
Holy $%!@.
The Drive control is pure magic. I knew this before, but the effect it has had on the MTD is nothing short of amazing. I think the MTD has too broad of a frequency response, and the drive half way up with the -10 pad engaged seems to narrow the spectrum and compress a little bit of the sound into one of the most beautiful bass tones I have ever heard. What a joy to play. Ultra modern bass plus vintage voiced head = happy me! This head just breathed new life into an amazing bass. |

I know Kjung likes it with his P bass but not sure it would sould good through that speaker and J type bass. But amazing I have not heard someone play it yet. I should try it out. The Thunderfunk sounds real good through it but it would be nice to have something that small for fast in and out gigs.

I've never had any issues dialing in a great sound. |

So the TH500 got the job instead, into the Berg NV412.
I tell you, it wasn't a heck of a big difference- in tone. Weight-HUGE difference.
Great amp, tons of power & monster tone.

Per your comment, sounds good with the J also , I just prefer more clean snap to my J tone. Pure IMO there! |

Speaking of videos -- did you take all of your bass gear video down??? They were a great reference and I miss them.

Really, though, if you want "flat" and/or "clean" I'm not sure this amp is for you. It's punchy as hell and can do clean to grit to mean overdrive, but it wont sparkle or even "clang" all that much. Sits in a mix great, though. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
