Hello fellow THites!

I started a thread asking this question in effects, but I thought afterwards this this might be a better place to ask for some advice. I won't recap everything I wrote in the other thread as it can be read there if needed, so in brief...

I'm loving my TH350 and find that it is giving me the "always" tone that I've always been looking for, whereas before I was using a variety of dirt pedals to warm up and make my other amps more gritty. While I'm still fine-tuning my exact preferred tone, I'm running the TH gain and drive both at about about noon, and the EQ is rather flat (very slight bass boost, very slight treble roll-off, and still playing with either boosting low mids or cutting high mids).

Anyway, having unloaded all my dirt pedals, I'm now thinking I may need to get one that plays nicely with the TH, both to help give a little extra oomph in certain sections, and perhaps to give some fuzz to help out with an envelope filter that I'll be starting to toy with. However, I don't want whatever I get to mess with my great TH tone - so I guess that means I'm looking for a fairly "transparent" pedal.

I've had one suggestion already for the Agro. What dirt pedals have other TH amp users had success with? Again, I don't want something that is "always on", but when it is on I don't want the basic TH tone messed with.

Thanks all!

I'll second the AGRO. They sound great!

Yeah, the Agro is MEAN. On my GAS list for sure.

ATM, I use a BBM with the master volume mod and it gets it done. I've done gigs with it on all the time through the Aggie and dug it, but now that I know how to get pretty full blown gritty distortion that actually sounds great from the TH (see above), may just do that next time I want the always on dirt.

+1 to the noon settings for very useable always on tone, too though.

Pickle Pie B works well with it. All I use now is that and a tuner. The blend pot is really the thing that makes it happen I reckon.

Depth Charge, TAFM or B:assmaster all sound really good with my TH500.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. Between this thread and the other it looks like the Agro is in the lead. I do wonder about going with one of the fuzz choices though, maybe as well. I guess its time to go back to multiple dirt pedals...not like that's a bad thing...

Just ordered a TH350 as a backup/smaller gig option to my DB750. Can't wait for it to get here!

I've tried to find the answer to my question on this thread and the previous ones but the search engine didn't help.

Being a solid state poweramp I guess so, but I want a confirmation; Is it possible to use the TH500 with no cabs attached as a preamp or DI?

thanks in advance.

Just picked up the TH500 and have been A/Bing between my GS210 & DB112s...very different sounds, but I like it! With my jazz bass & bridge pup, I definitely prefer the 12s.

I was just going to ask the same question as Fran, but sounds like others have done this and no issues not having a speaker load? The manual doesn't mention this one way or the other...

Correct. Solid state amps do not have a problem with this, you'll be just fine without a cab.

Even my Orange TB500H dances around on the top of my Bergantino AE410 (and its bigger and heavier than Tonehammers! ...When I am pounding at dance band volume, the head scoots across the top of the cab. Might need to put some velcro hook and loop for amp feet on cab.

I've had good success with shelf liner...

Shelf liner works well. Especially with the head resting on the handle. It also adds a little vibration damping.
I got a roll of this stuff at the 99 cent store for......99 cents.

The AGRO indeed one of the few drive pedals that is actually working without a blend pot!

The shelf liner thing is clever.

I added big honking feet to mine to solve the micro-over-handle problem and they have the ancillary effect of helping it stay put with the weight and vibration damping.

After (mostly) lurking in these three TH500 threads and lusting after one, I placed my order for one this afternoon. Backordered until February, but I've waited this long...
