Gigged mine for the first time last night through an old 115. Could have sworn i was playing through a tube amp. Warm and fat with a bit of growl and almost a tube like compression to it. I, too, love that the treble knob doesn't dial in an instant clang. Hunting for a new cab setup, but my basses already sound better than they ever have.

We'll just keep that as our little secret, we wouldn't want everyone to have that sound now, would we?

I've been looking for something to replace my very old Eden WT-400. I've only played the hammer through the Aguilar cabs and sounds phenomenal. Tight, focused bass. Gobs of power. I cannot wait to connect my Berg HT322. I love this amp. I want an 800 or 1000 watt version.

Has anyone tried running an external pre through the TH's FX Return (ie- using as a small power amp)? Is the Master Volume post-FX loop?

I am intrigued of the size and general tonal character of the TH500, but sometimes like to use a different preamp. If the Aggie can function well as a power amp, I may strongly consider getting one to replace my awesome but more modern toned and large GB SM9.2...

I have done that many times using my former UA LA-610 Mk II into the EFX return. Works just fine, but in the end I like the sound of the preamp in the amp so I sold the UA.

That was the same switch I made. WT400 to TH500.

I still love the Eden. I just realized it was getting on in years and I had no backup now the Eden is the backup.

I love Eden as well; it offers a more even sound that is a little smothh. Aguilar has a richer sound. I love both, but the Eden heads are pricer than the TH 500

Me too. I loved the sound, and I did just sell it to free up some cash, but gigging in NYC the extra 10 or so lbs makes a big difference for the long walks I make to gigs.

I had a WT400 for a short while. Pretty major baked in low mid hump that I could not EQ out no matter what I did. The three sweepable mid bands had too narrow a Q to be musically useful, also, IMO. And on top of all that the amp would just stop producing audio once in a while for a few seconds, something I could never track down to anything specific, so off it went to Sam Ash in trade for my second, and much better, 700RB. I sold the first one I had to buy the Eden, big mistake. I hope whoever bought the WT400 from SA had better luck with it than I did. From what I recall of any amp I have ever owned, the Eden was the most problematic; unfortunate, as it could have been a pretty nice amp but it was way too heavy for it's "micro for it's time" size. It was pretty nicely built with the exception of it's sheet metal screws for the casing.

The Tone Hammer 500 is light years ahead in sound, construction quality, ease of use, superb EQ, user features (just what is really necessary, with no frivolous bells & Entwistles ), weight for it's size, etc.

I dunno mate. I own a Tone hammer 500 and do love it, however, I owned an Eden WT400 for appx 11 years and it never even sneezed once. Dead reliable and, IMO, superior to the GK 800rb I sold for it. Also, I found the Eden EQ very usable. You must have gotten a "slug"!

Yeah, I have a WT330 as a complimentary amp to my TH500. Love both of them. Just deoxit'd the pots on the Eden and its working like a champ.

I love setting the gain to about 1 o'clock and setting the drive at 3 o'clock. This upfront setting makes the amp quite tube-like to my ears. I love it!

That would be my guess, too. But, it did leave me with a negative impression and I moved on/back to other amps. At this point, I am more than happy with the Aguilar and my Walter Woods to try another Eden.

Understood. I might feel the same way if I had issues with the product. You just never know when you're gonna get that unit made on Friday at 4:45pm. Best of luck with your tone hammer 500.

Eden's glory days of stellar reliability and, for the time, cutting edge tone and features, ended about 15 years ago. The brand has been on a serious slide, starting with its being purchased by a larger company, for a long time now.

This brand was one of the most solid performers out there, and there are still old WT400's, WT800's and 410XLT's provided as backline and used by bar bands etc. that are still going strong after 20 years or more.

How do you know that the company who bought them out told them to cut corners and to take short cuts? Granted with Fender in the CBS days it was evident which included masses running to Music Man amps and Boogie
