Aguilar prices are high

Why have their prices gone up so high ? I already own one of their matched rigs (and I love it) and I'm considering trading up but I've had to pause because of their high prices. What does Aguilar have to offer for gear to justify their high prices ?

That's why I look for deals on used gear. I just got a mint condition GS112 for $280 on craigslist. As Eddie Murphy once said, "Wot a bargain!"

I bought a used DB112nt for $300, and a used DB210 for a little more. Buying used gear is the way to go.

That's $100 more than what they used to cost. I want to say something in 2007, basically when the DB series came out. The GS112 was $400ish and the DB112 was $500ish...

Economics 101

Each individual corporation has a break even point, based upon cost of sales. Once established, the gross profit percentage necessary to achieved the desired profitability, either is there or they go away. If the gross is too high, the market will let them know, in low sales. This a simplistic explaination, as all corporations have there own definition of cost control. Some short term exceptions are niche markets. Buyers will often pay higher than average gross retail margins, to aquire the product.

Everyone claims they want made in USA. Put you money where you mouth is. It's not cheap to make stuff here, and I would imagine there is fairly high overhead in NYC.

+1 = my exact story too, except I picked up a DB112 instead of the DB210. Both great condition, half price of new ones. Let your fingers do the walking.... through the TB Classifieds!

Their prices have definitely gone up. I don't have their books in front of me, but my guess is they're a low-margin company; so there's probably some type of economic reason rather than more profit driving their prices higher. Of course, I bought both of my S410s when they were going dirtcheap and bought my GS112 used.

But yeah, I think the used market has a lot to offer. And Eddie Murphy quote FTW!

Quality gear made in the States is going to have a higher cost. Also, the cost of raw materials has risen dramatically in the last few years. Lumber, aluminum, copper, steel and even the paper used in the drivers has risen quite a bit. I would actually be willing to bet Aguilar has absorbed more of the cost increases than they have passed on.

When the price of fuel goes up, the price of all goods and services rises accordingly. Today I paid $3.49 a gallon for gas. How much was gas 5 years ago?
