Sign in to disble this ad
These 25lb 1x12 cabs have been available since late January.
Aguilar has a very dedicated following - and there was quite a buzz of anticipation for months here on T/B about them.
Yet - I can find VERY little real-world pro gigging reviews of these cabs on T/B. Even doing a Google search finds nothing.
Let's please hear some feedback and reviews from some PRO players that are GIGGING OUT with these cabs. There MUST be at least a few T/B Aguilar guys using these cabs that could chime in and offer some insight.
- How do these sound in relation to the heavier Agi GS112 and DB112 cabs. The GS are known to be a bit mid-scooped, and the DB is more mid-present. Where do these SL's fit in tone wise ?
- How large of a gig can be covered with one cab ?
- With two ?
- How well does the SL112 handle a low B string ?
Thanks in advance for any feedback on these SL112 cabs.
My bad back issues have me hoping that these are "all that" |

I am also interested in why these cabs are so retardedly expensive. It is almost like they have artificially inflated the prices before any sort of reducion in neodymium availability has even begun. I see no reason why these should be more expensive than the DB cabinets.

That is hard to believe.
C'mon - would love to hear some real world gigging reviews of these cabs.
Thanks y'all. |

Now I am sure that they have some of the new SL series cabs and amps out in the field now, but I don't think they are widely available yet.
I am located in Houston and should be getting my hand on some of these new amp and cabs within the next couple weeks. I'll be sure to post my thoughts as soon I do. |

I have an Berg AE410 also, now standing in the corner. I´m really impressed with the SL cabs = looks, wieght and sound.

Did you play 5string thru it - how does it handle a B string?
How large of a gig will 2 of these cabs cover?
What kind of midrange response does it have?
How does it compare in tone/volume to other Neo 1x12 cabs ?
BTW - I own a G/B STM900 - so interrested in your results with these cabs using the STM600. I also use a Mesa Walkabout head and am a big fan - wondering if anyone has been using these SL112 cabs powered with a Walkabout head?
It'd be great if we could get some other T/B SL112 users to chime in with some reviews and on-the-gig observations.
Anyone ?? |

Street price is about $675 for an SL 112 ,which is about the same as a Bergantino AE112, which also has a NEO speaker. The SL 112 is lighter by about 6 pounds . I tried both and bought
the Berg. It was a tough choice because they both sounded good , but it came down to the Berg being tried and true and better resale. |

My band is 5-piece and we play restaurants/pubs, wedding and partygigs and I have never any issues about volume with any of these cabs and I have never cranked them. The AE 410 have a more upper mid pregnans vs the SL 112. The Aggies are more neutral sounding to me. The last month I have played these cabs both with my SWR 550X and my recently bought GB Streamliner 600. Any of these cabs sounds good with these amps but to me the Streamliner sounds magic with two SL 112. I play a 5-string Fodera BO Emperor a 5-string Wal MKII, Rob Allen fretless 5-string MB-2 and a swedish built bass Unicorn Ozellman Pro 5-string. I only use the Unicorn with the Streamliner and Aggies. I think the bass you play have a great impact on sound with this setup. My Unicorn has a four band EQ that I don´t need to touch anymore since I got the Streamliner amp.
I use the balance control and the two pickup switches to achieve different sounds with my Unicorn all the way from Warwick type of sound to Alembic sound to Fender type of sound. My band prefer two SL 112 over the AE 410 and so do I. Hope this help somewhat.

| | She's My Inspiration | | Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: Dresher, Pa. | | | I briefly played 2, SL112's at Gerald Veasley's Bass Bootcamp. I also played one SL next to one Berg 112 HT ER, and the Berg had smoother, fuller bottom and the tweeter was also more natural sounding, to my ears. The trade off is that the Berg's weigh almost 18 pounds more. I played the SL's with at Epifani 501 head, and it sounded really great. I pushed them pretty hard and they did not fart out. I played a 5 string Skjold, and an MTD 535, with the gain at 12:00 and volume at 11:00 and they kept intact. I also heard the SL next to the DB 112, and the DB just sounded more refined; tighter bottom, nicer tweeter, but again, there is a huge weight difference. I finally had a chance to hear the Tone Hammer with the SL's. I'll just say that it wasn't my cup of tea; I prefer the AG 500. I hope this helps. |

Do we have any more SL112 owners here on T/B that could chime in on their live gigging experiences with the cab, either using one or preferrably two ?
Also interrested to hear from those who have experience with other higher-end 1x12 cabs and could compare them with the SL112.
Thanks all !! |

I just came back from a tour with Abigail Washburn, and I was using a Tone Hammer 500 + one SL112 cab for upright bass.
We played some smaller clubs, and then huge stages at Bonaroo and Telluride and the rig sounded great in every case. Incredibly loud for the size/weight.
Of course - in every case, I'm sending a DI out to the house, and also an onboard DPA condenser mic, but the amp did a good job at getting a big stage volume/sound.
I also used the rig for an electric gig 2 nights ago (a 5 string) and it sounded amazing. Again, plenty loud. Lots of compliments on tone.
I might pick up another SL112 soon just to maximize the potential of the amp, but so far - I'm very happy with the setup. |

However, I have attended to rehearsals with it, and it sounded amazing. I will do a follow up after tonight. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
