So I'm surfing one of the local used gear stores and I come across this

http://www.spacemanmusic.com/Amps/Tu...e+Contra+310BA

Anyone know anything about this amp? Is it used for upright exclusively or can you plug a solid body electric into it? How do they sound?

You can plug anything into it, but, it's a limited amp volume-wise.
Front facing 5", rear-loaded 10". Ok for practice, but, with a loud drummer it'll disappear.
These are designed for super clean (almost sterile) sound reproduction - which for some may be cool. Very little of their own character. Not much oomph. Might be fine for a coffee house gig. That price isn't smokin' either.

I would pass on that one. The series II can be had for about that price and is quite the upgrade. The series III are still pretty steep used.

These amp are perfect for jamming with other musicians that are playing acousic. I own a series II and love it for upright and electric, but it will be buried at gig levels without pa support.

Interesting...thanks for the info. It's an odd looking amp, for sure. I'll scope out the II series and see if I can find a good used example.

That particular model is only 200 watts, not 400 as the ad says.

I agree that $549 is a little high for a Series I. $300-400 would be more realistic.

Yeah, the head is great, but that cab is pretty nasty sounding to me. It has a 10" downfiring woofer (it is crossed over low enough that most of the sound coming out if it is omnidirectional bass, so the downfiring thing is kind of a clever way to save space. The mids are coming out of the front firing 5" driver.

Much better to combine one of their heads with a cab more suitable for EB IMO.
