| | | | AK Thunderchild sitting horizontal??

Ok, I am considering afew different cabs for the future.. and one of the ones that intrigue me the most, is the AK Thunderchild. Not only does it sound like its a great small cab, one of my friends from a guitar forum I visit has one and mentioned it works great for other instruments like Guitar also.. Which is what I want, something that can primarily do bass, but works with other instruments.
Something I was wondering though, since I have a 2U rackmount head that wouldnt fit on it while its vertical (without having room on the edges, which scares me)... How will it sound if the AK Thunderchild is horizontal??
Will it make a big difference in sound if it is horizontal?
for everyone to picture it, this is the AK Thunderchild veritcal.. now imagine that placed on its side.
I dont really want to hear the "Just put your head on the ground or somewhere else" responses, solely wondering if having this or any other horn amp horizontal would drastically alter the sound to where it is detrimental.

Read more of the techie stuff around here including what Duke has written about this cab.
EDIT: You might consider posting in the Thunderchild thread where you'd be more likely to get an answer from Duke himself, but that horn in pattern if I recall is 90 horizontal by 45 or 50 degrees vertical. So the pattern is wide but not so tall. Now put it perpendicular and it becomes 45 horizontal by 90 vertical - the opposite of the way rooms are typically used for listening audiences.
Unless you are on Uranus.

I have the same horn in one of my DIY cabs. It is nominally a 90 X 50 degree piece BTW. Personally, I would not even think about using it on its side on my gigs, after having tried it at home (with my cab, not Duke's). But hey, it's your money...
As far as other horns, I have heard some that still sounded pretty nice oriented "sideways", but they also had less difference between the vertical and horizontal dispersion numbers. They also tended to sit closer to my ears than a TC cab on the floor does.

On the other hand, have you considered putting the cab on top of the rack unit? The universe might collapse in on itself, of course, but if it worked out for the CERN boyz, who knows ...?

Like, I don't know, a bunny rabbit at each corner. I'm sure Greenboy has the appropriate picture for the occasion.

2. put the TC on top of the rack.
