+1

My local GC is never stocked with what I want to see, and they refuse to order most bass gear to the store with out you purchasing it outright.

I'm pretty lucky here in Austin. One of the larger local shops generally has a pretty nice selection of GB gear. Its quite convenient for demoing basses through an exact copy of my Streamliner/NeoX rig.

And the place is even staffed with sales people who know what they're talking about.

Only 1 shop in my area sells them. But hey, I can always find them here for sale on Talkbass. The best bass related shop on the planet!

My post was a bit hyperbolic. Most dealers have a staggeringly limited supply of GB gear, like 1 cabinet or 1 amp and it's normally the lower end stuff. The only place locally that I can actually test out stuff is BassNW, which I don't enjoy much.

My local GC wont stock 5 string basses as they, "Are going out of style, serious musicians only play 4 string instruments..." and wont stock, "Light weight amp, that are a fad..." except if its markbass gear. Even among their staple brands it took forever to get something like a PF-500 or MB500 in stock.

They put a lot of the small places out of business a few years back. I would bet that 90% of their sales come from disposable beginner gear.

Guitar Center has "debts of more than $1.5bn" according to the article linked above, so they are doing something wrong.
Maybe something more than out of touch sales staff.

If you are not familiar with corporate policies it would be far out-stepping agedhorses position to make comments on world wide distribution concerns. He is an amazing resource to GB and everyone here and I for one would not like to see him endanger his position with Genz Benz.
I am not sure if hasbeen is even in a position to make any statement to distribution in other countries outside of USA.
You have trouble buying "off the shelf", ya that is tough. Still not as hard as getting your hands on new Mesa or Carvin gear in a store?

All dealers have to sign a contract with Fender saying they have to stock a significant amount of GB gear at all times before they can buy anything at all. Since GB is not a well known brand in Norway, no shops take that chance. So no GB is avalible for Norwegian bassplayers...way to go Fender!

But that is the companies way of not getting nickled and dimmed on supply train costs. Leaves a perfect opening for a local builder to come out with their own line of amps.

Yeah it sucks to not be on the main distribution line for gear you want, but you *could* pay to have it shipped in.

Must be Bass Emporium. Or does Guitar Rez carry Genz now?

Sadly, Bass Emporium closed its doors recently.

Strait Music, or at least the location on South Lamar, stocks a decent amount of Genz Benz equipment.

Many companies were built this way and are still active today.
The most notorious being Valve, funded strictly with private money with the sole purpose of producing the bast games ever. Profit and returns weren't a concern.
There are many companies that aren't based on profit and are very healthy. Have yo uever used Wikipedia?

A bit of a trip, but Hugo Helmer Music in Burlington had a pretty good selection of GB amps and cabs last time I was there.

"A part le délai d'une semaine (et les ruptures de stocks européennes), nous n'avons pas de problème particulier pour l'approvisionnement des marques KMC. Par contre si vous désirez une autre enceinte Genz-Benz, il faudra que vous puissiez vous décider rapidement car la marque va réduire sa production de manière drastique.

Cordialement,
Guillaume"

Copy of the email I received today to confirm. Jazz Ad can call Guillaume Radouan @ Mproshop (http://quedesamplis.com/) if you prefer trust him.

Fact is: as it is said here, Genz Benz "will harshly decrease its production volume" so not a problem that only concern Europe, but everyone, what I feared the first time I heard about that.

When I put forward a information, it's not to raise it as a rumor. I HAVE facts, and I can provide my own sources, as I do here.

kthxbye

Hearing this sort of thing doesn't surprise me at all. Lately I've been wondering who exactly is buying all this new gear and where the used stuff is going. I can't imagine there are really that many new players needing gear. Seeing people here at TB regularly flipping equipment may be misleading and not representative of the big picture. Most of the people I play with use the same stuff for years. Seems to me with the economy as hurting as it is you could expect to see the new gear market become less active as people settle in and make due with what they have.
