All my Gear, Gone.. ; ( ...well...back to the ol' drawing board...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TBers...

need some advice...

All my clubdating gear was stolen from my car a few weeks ago,
in the middle of the day, with people all around...
& nobody saw S%^t....
now let's all sing together in 5/8, key of Eb; ♪ " I F%^kin' Hate NY.. " ♫ .....

but seriously...

i need to build back up, keeping in mind this is mainly for clubdating.
(please, no svt-8/10 - 360/361 suggestions...lol)

i still have my ampeg SVP-CL preamp for this situation
{with the output mod, btw)...

can anyone suggest a good {lightweight} Poweramp match for the the svp?,
(while keeping it around 2U..?
i.e. .. although the obv match wud b the 'ampeg 1500 or 1600',..
i really need to streamline the weight factor, for this situation..)
{both going together in an skb rack obv..}

...and while we're at it,..i would probably need a speaker cab, rite?

i was using the ampeg porta 2/10 {before it grew legs}
but also, while it was the lightest 2/10 cab i have ever carried,...
i was never crazy about the speakers / tone..

so,..i would like to keep it a 2/10 or 2/12 {4 ohm, of course...ported?} situation.
and i would really like to keep it NEO, but obv. better qual than the ol' ampeg porta...

hmmm?

thanks.

Do you have insurance to cover everything? QSC PLX stuff, Carvin DCM, and Crest CC/CD stuff seems to come up most often.

bang for the buck cab-wise the avatar neo 212's are hard to beat.
2u amps are pretty common, just shop around the usual suspects.

That SUCKS!!!

I hate thieves.

As far as power amps go, you didn't mention how much poewr you need. If you want to stay light and in the 2U catagory, i would suggest the Carvin DCL, the Crown XLS, or the Peavey IPR.

They seem to be the 3 lightest on the market right now.

Carvin DCM-L series power amps. (DCM-1000L 1000w at 4 ohms, $349.00)

Avatar Neo 2x12 cab ($389) or Carvin BRX10.4 Neo 4 ohm (4x10, $569.00).

Great bang for the buck there.

Check the Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 and 9.0 amps along with the 2x12 or single 12T speakers. Depending on the sound you want, they are incredible performers. The amp docked on a single 12T speaker is 36 pounds and pushes 375W. Drop the impedence to 4 ohms and you have 600W, which you could do with a neo 2x12 cab. Fantastic amps and cabs....NOT the cheapest, but fantastic quality and customer service.

OP, sad to hear about your loss. Leaving gear in a car or van is never a good idea! I found that out the hard way too. Lost three basses in my time. I hope you had your stuff insured.

Sorry about your loss man. Situations like this make me want to install GPS Trackers in all my gear, if only i could afford to. And JimmyM i agree, the SVP-CL is a damn good pre.

You MUST have insurance!

It's going to only get worse out there in the time we live in.

Just witnessed a father literally crying to the shop owner about his daughter's broken 'cello (no insurance). Now he'll be buying TWO 'cellos AND insurance.

Yeah, I hate thieves. If you were in Vancouver I could probably loan you some gear, but none of them are on the "light" side.

Another plus for heavy amps: They're darn hard to run away with!

Thanks everyone....

yeah, i had a gig that night, so it wasn't like i just left it in the car overnight..
i was actually on the way to my talent/clubdate agency for some job related meeting, before my gig...
stopped into the Post Office for 15 min, came out.... and....

{needless to say i threw a psychotic 'academy award' fit in the middle of the street...when i saw my window broken, glass everywhere, and my trunk hatch up.. and cleaned out...}
oh well,...life in the big city... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

nope...as previously stated,..i didn't.. (..place 'dunce' emoticon; here)

& you're absolutely correct Paul...in the end, it was my bad...
the equip. that bit it:
Ampeg Porta 800 head (in skb rack case)
Ampeg Porta 210 cab
Canvas bag full of high qual electrical ext cords / quad boxes
{...a super tough canvas bag that i had since 1983...waaaaaaaaa...lol}

if they would've gotten my '73 P Bass, 76 J, or 68 Rick,...
i prob would have gone insane, got one of my boys' piece..
and unloaded on everyone within a 50 yard radius....
.......thank God for Diazepam......

Right On Jim!...got the mod btw..
and put 2- 12Ax JJ's in the V1 & V2 spots, and 2- EH 12Av's in the V3 & V4 spots...
Output is better,....but i guess i need to match this pre with the right Power Amp,
before i can fall in love with it....

that they would have worked with me, just to get me out of the dang store!...

BGW 750 F....acoustic 301 cab...etc..OY my achin' back just talkin bout it...)
