I love my JBL K145. But , even more, I wish I could find four AlNiCo CTS speakers for my Ampeg SVT410HEN cabinet.

if i were buying new speakers, i'd be real tempted to try those new eminence b810's. i haven't heard them yet and i have yet to find a speaker that sounds as good in an 810 as those cts's. but i hear very good things about the b810's. not going to bother with them, though...i have cts's

Jimmy,

I checked out the Eminence B810 on their website. It's a 150 watt speaker with a ferrite magnet. Do you know how it is different from the Eminence speakers I now have in my SVT410HEN? The old CTS speakers were AlNiCo magnets and only 40 watts. I'm not sure how the B810 speakers compare. They seem more similar to the modern cabinet speakers.

I'd be happy with 40 watt drivers. I used to have two of the old flat-back SVT 810 cabinets on dollies. They only handled 240 watts each and one would "scream" when you tried to put 300 watts into it. I actually preferred that sound. I'm afraid my SVT410HEN cabinet loaded with these new Eminence B810 speakers (4X150 watts) wouldn't "break up a little" with my 200 watt Sadowsky head. That's part of the problem I'm having now. The cabinet is rated at 500 watts RMS (1000 watts peak) and I can't get the speakers moving with 200 watts.

I tried to get some 40 watt AlNiCo clones from Ted Weber last summer but he never finished the project and it doesn't seem that his son is continuing it.

Until then, I'll just have to be happy using an old AlNiCo JBL K145.

sorry for the delay in answering, gale. i was flying most of the day yesterday. anyway, no, i have no clue what they sound like. however, the frequency response is the best i've seen in a direct replacement speaker for the 810, and of course, the power handling is better. i probably won't get a chance to try them out, either, since i'm quite happy with the cts's. but for a 410hen, might be worth a shot.

Thanks Jimmy,

I think I'll keep waiting on some CTS speakers, even some blown ones.
