Am I being paranoid?

Today I was jamming and recording at my drummers home studio. My rig is a GK 700rbII going into a Mesa PH210. As most of you know, the amp puts out 280 watts at 8 ohms. While I was playing today, I noticed that if I really dug in hard on low notes, the clip light would flash. I was listening for farting, which wasn't happening. I was listening for distorting too, and I could hear some buzzing, but it could be because I have low action, although I was playing as clean as possible. My EQ is a slight bump to the high-mids, and a little presence dialed in as my strings die. If the amp is set relatively flat, in theory the cab can handle much more watts than the amp puts out. I'm really doubting the buzzing was anything bad, but some input would be appreciated!

I haven't seen anything on my surveillance video feeds that make me think you're paranoid....

If the noise you hear is really string buzzing, it'll continue at lower volumes as you turn down the amp.

If its problems with the speaker it'll only occur at high volumes. Should be easy to distinguish.

Going to be hard to burn out a 600 w cab with a 280 watt head. If you're really clipping the tweeter would be in more danger than anything else.

That said, if run a lot of low end you could still easily fart out the speaker though. Bottom it out and mess up the voice coil. That should be an obvious sound, and only at high volumes, and on lower notes.

Rule of thumb: If it gets loud and starts sounding different, get quieter.

If you have active bass, check your battery. Also try turning down the input gain at the amp. Maybe its just the input clipping. Not the speakers approaching doom, not the power amp maxing out. Just a little too hot of a signal from the bass.

I do have an active bass. Lakland 44-02, I'll check the battery and if the buzzing is happening at low volumes next time I'm there. Thanks for the replies!

That means you've set the gain on your amp about as close to optimum as you can get. Yes, you're being paranoid.

Remain calm. Play bass. All is well.
