GK 700rbII buzzing need help

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys i need some help. I have a gk 700rbII paired with a gk 2-12 neo it makes a buzzing/static type noise it seems to be associated with the boost and treble controls, but mainly the boost. The higher i turn the boost, the louder the buzz. If I turn the boost all the way down it goes away. I can also have the boost turned up and turn the tone knob all the way down on my jazz bass and it goes away. you can only hear it when i'm not playing. Anyone have any idea what would cause this?

Does the amp make any noise without a bass plugged in?

Might just be the way your eq is set-up matey !! The Boost sounds like it boosts highs & lows so take it easy with that maybe ??

It does it no matter how I set the eq I mainly run it flat everything at noon. I've tried it with the contour and presence off and the 4/5 string voicing both ways. I couldn't make it there to see what it does with nothing connected to it hopefully I can tomorrow. I hope there is nothing major wrong with it, I really like this set up.

Until you eliminate the bass, it isn't productive to speculate about the amplifier.

Ok I checked my amp without my bass connected it was dead quiet. hooked it back up instant noise then I played it until the amp got warm enough for the fan to kick on disconnected the bass again no noise. i'm gonna try a different cable tomorrow. Just wondering can a passive bass cause noise?

IMO, they are more prone to cause noise then actives.

You need to check for shielding in the control cavity, and ground problems.

It's not that they can cause noise so much as they can pick it up from nearby ElectroMagnetic Interference (neon lights, dimmer packs, and transformers like those found in wall warts & line lumps etc. Also poorly shielded guitar cables and/or, IIRC, ground loops in pedal boards and/or nearby equipment powered from improperly wired AC outlets can contribute to hum & buzz).

As for a noisy electric bass/guitar the solution is to thoroughly shield the bass' electronics so that EMI is intercepted and shunted to ground before entering the instrument's signal path.

Jazz Shielding Pictorial (Big Images Warning) is a lengthy (and old) how-to thread on this subject. (Please note that many of the pictorial links early in the thread are broken but have been re-posted a few pages in.)
