Amp/cab/2nd cab & ohms question

Sign in to disble this ad

So I picked up a Traynor YBA-3 (4 OHMS) and an cab 2X15 (4 OHMS).

Can someone explain to me what gets hooked up where? Does the cab get hooked up to the EXT input or the SPEAKER input?

If I get a second cab to hook up to it, can I hook it up to the other input? And in terms of OHMS, will I be able to use another 4OHM cab, or will I have to change them both to 8 OHMS?

(Sorry for the elementary questions, but it's my first bass amp/cab and I'd rather be safe than sorry)

Your cabinet connects to the speaker output of the amp. As both are 4Ω they match. The cable should be a speaker cable and not an instrument cable. If you wish to add a second cabinet it would be connected to the Ext socket but both cabs would need to be 8Ω to still match the 4Ω tap of the amplifier.

^^ Perfect. Thank you...

I didn't know there was a difference between speaker and instrument cables.

Yes, a big difference. +1 to BPaul's post, your 2x15 is a perfect match for the amp, but a 2nd cab is not an option as it is. Shouldn't matter though, the 215 should be all you need.
